  1. I have a slik 700DX and quaite happy with it. I bought it with the pan and tilt head, but later added a 25 Nm cullman

ball head. My set up is 7 lbs and working well so far for 1.5 years. People have talked about its weight issue, but its

fine with me. I suugest taking slik 700 dx legs and cullman ballhead. both will be under $200. After changing to the

ball head its become lighter. It was 7.00 lbs with the pan yilt head and now 5.5 lbs with the cullman head. I borrowed

a 4 lbs tripod one day and didn't feel much difference carrying it.. YMMV

  2. The price is $1299, which seems a little high compared to E3 which is now $1366. Either the E30 orice will go down a little bit after its in the market or E3 would still be a good choice with the weather sealing. What say you.
  3. Now its more interesting. Thanks all for the resoponse.

Most of the things were explained nicely but the AF issue is not concluded for me, so I will try and be specific. Though E3 AF is good but D300 AF is better, which was expected. For me in particular, I am in to wildlife, birds, airshows and sports. Of course its the technique also, but for an non-professional like me, will the better D300 AF be more forgiving in shots and produce better results or the IS help me more with the camera shake at longer focal lengths, when shooting hand held.

  4. I am planning on upgrading and I need some advice from users who have both of these camera's.

    1) Countinous AF (in E3) vs predictive autofocus (in D300). This is a comparison between 13 AF points vs 51, but i

have read online that most D300 users use only 21 AF points as 51 is slower. So 13 and 21 are somewhat near if

you see the layout and will cover the subject.

    2) IS in E3 vs high ISO in D300 : If you leave catching action in low light, will the extra 2-3 stop ISO performance in

the D300 compare with the 2-3 stop IS of E3.

    3) Lenses : I am not very familiar with the Nikon lenses, but they look a little costly when I want to cover my current

range of olympus lenses. 14-54/f2.8-3.5, 50-200/F2.8-3.5, and 1.4 TC.

    Thank you.

    Manu

  5. Bought E500 because of the price and then got a lot more lenses. In the learning curve liked the camera and the colors. Auto white balalnce and custom white balance are very good. ISO performance of E500 is not good, but thats better in the E3. The IS gives it advantage over others, and cleaning system works excellent.

The question that I am looking answers for are the CF and the ISO performance in the next models. From what i read the CF of D300 and canon is better, but I wouldn't know, I have only OLY. I am waiting for the April release of the EXX otherwise I will go for E3.

  6. Matt/Bennett,

"This is NOT a hard case, it's a padded tube-type construction". Some questions as I am thinking over these ones and both of you have used it.

    1) Even if it is padded (I guess hard padded) Is it rigid enough to handle airport transport as checked in luggage.

    2) Is it allowed as cabin baggage.

    I have a Slik 700dx with a cullman 25 Nm ballhead.

    Thanks

    Manu

  7. Before coming to E series (E500) I read a lot of reviews and bought the 14-54 almost immediately after the E500 and the kit lens. Did not use it much, but took it out to beaches and rough conditions when I did not want to take the risk of spoiling the 14-54.

I was quite surprised with the quality to what I had read. Though 14-54 wins, but with a narrow margin, 14-45 is almost as good as the 14-54.

E 500 I have is a very good camera, haven't used 330/300 and you get these cheap nowdays.
