I checked that the voltage across my flash is 112 V. So, can I use it with a nikon D50/40?
-
I have a very odd situation here. I want to use my vivitar 91 flash with nikon
D40. I found out that I can get a hot-shoe pc cable adapter for cheap and that
will connect my flash properly. When I went to buy it, the storekeeper told me
that I can fry my camera electronics if i do that. Is that true? has anyone
tried using an old flash with a new nikon system? whats the deal here? Thanks
for your reponses.

Thanks a lot guys. All the links were very useful. I wanted to know a few more things about which I am still confused.
1) Does the 503CW support digital back? I read that 503CWD was a limited production (only 500).
2) What about metering? I did not read about that.
3) What are the things I need to look for when I am buying a Hasselblad body, lens and compatible flash?
4) If there is metering available, what kind of polarizer can be used (circular or linear)?
5) Is there a flash that gives you an estimate of subject distance? I am very poor at these estimates and as a result do a horrible flash work (I generally shoot outdoors).
6) What is the best place (web) to buy a used Hasselblad? What are the things that can go wrong in a seconds Hasselblad? Why would anyone sell a camera this good?
All these may sound dumb, but as you see, I am new. I'm trying to learn about Hasselblad so that I understand what suits my needs.
Thank you all once again for your help.

I use Yashica TLR and want to get into Hasselblad. I do not have any idea about
the models. The official website does not cover any film cameras. Since find
books hard to move around, does anyone happen to have any documents that gives a
details on the hasselblad system? I want to know all the technical details of
all the models. I may consider buying an old one. It would be great if anyone
has a pdf of hasselblad handbook or compendium. Thanks.

Just another one.

Wanted to wish you guys a happy independence day (US Independence day). So let me attach some fireworks that I grabbed.

Thanks Shun. I use manual focus. As long as the meter works and I have the distances marked on the lens, I'm happy. I do not care about the AF-S thing.
Daniel, I think the 70-300 is a good zoom. It would be worth checking out.

Francois, thanks a lot for your advice. Could you suggest me from where I can get the 2 elements nikon close-up? 52mm is fine. I am ready to take the trouble of composing keeping in mind the parallex. i want the achromat version.
-
David, I just saw the link. I think I will take your word for it. I have seen ED lens performance with D200 but was expecting that the 6MPD sensor would be less sensitive to the fringes. Anyway, for a $199 I think I should get the ED version.
Thanks a lot.
NB: I did not feel insulted. I know you are trying to help.

I'm impressed by the comments. I have a lens in mind for D40. Its a Nikon 70-300mm f/4-5.6G AF Telephoto Zoom-Nikkor Lens and it is $139 on adorama.com. It does not have ED or VR. What I like is the distance markings which is very useful for me for getting the hyperfocal distance. Has anyone used this lens? Does the ED make too much of a difference? I ask this because the ED version of the same thing is about double the price!!!

As for me, I have calibrated the metering on my Yashica with a D200, and they look very close (probably within 1/3 or 1/2 stops apart). I tested it on a gray card. I sometimes even have used the approximate exposure settings by approximating using the center weighted meter on the little canon powershot that I have, and it worked!! I do not have a lightmeter and do all sorts of drama to get close to the correct thing. Here, I would add that I do outdoors mostly, even I like portraits outdoors.

Edward, thanks for the information, but $400 is too expensive for me. Is there something cheaper? Also, where would you buy those from?
-
I am thankful to all of you for sharing your opinions. However, I have some further comments.
Francois, I am looking for a kit thats fits on to a 55mm ( or 52mm )filter because I have bayI adapters for them. Moreover, all the filters that I use are of that thread size. So I do not wish to use a bay1 attachment. In fact, in my opinion (please correct me if I am wrong as I do not have much experience) the nikon or similar close-up lenses are much superior than the yashica made ones.
I had in mind what Maris does. I wanted to first use it on the viewing lens to compose and then the taking lens to capture. Regarding the parallex, I think I have to get experienced to compensate it. I am trying to push the TLR beyond its limit. But Maris, I did not wish to do a fish-eye photo. I was thinking of a regular wider view (without any curvature effect). Nevertheless, if Maris happens to have some photo in the digital form, i'd love to take a look at them. I'm sure they will look interesting.
Oh, let me reveal one more thing. I am planning to get a nikon D40. So, i'm trying to see if there are these attachments that I can buy and use it on both the cameras as I love to see the stuff in film. I'd use the DSLR for experiment and learning purposes. Unfortunately, I cannot invest in a Hasselblad system now. So do you think that it is completely impossible for me to do these kind of stuff on my TLR?
-
I use Yashica 124G MAT, a fixed lens TLR. I am interested in getting a good wide
angle conversion lens. I am looking at something about 0.4x with any standard
filter thread size. Upon little investigation I realized that most of these kind
are built for camcorders and are of inferior photographic quality. Can anyone
suggest me a superior quality wide angle conversion lens that is reasonable in
price?
Also, i'm looking forward to getting a macro conversion lens that takes me to a
1:1 magnification on my 6x6 film.
Thanks for taking your time out to give me your opinion.

Hi Akira,
All the prices I quoted was for the kit. The 18-135 kit is an offer from adorama I think. Yes, this may be combined by the seller.
With these kit prices in mind, I am debating which one is a better deal. The difference of the kit prices show the difference in the prices in lens. This difference is true when you compare the lenses. But, if I want to change lens, selling a lens and then buying one would cause of lot of hazard and shipping costs will go up. Thats why I am trying to figure out the optimum combination.
In the process I guess I have successfully confused you :).

Thanks William and Michael. I was looking for a wide angle conversion lens but they did not have one. The representative told me that it can me found online only and they do not stock them.

Hi,
Can anyone give me some feedback on the 18-55mm kit ($524.99) lens and the
18-135mm kit ($724.99) lens (the difference of price in the 2 kits is $200). I
am planning to buy the D40 but not sure which kit to take. There is also a 18-55
and 55-200 kit available for $699.99 on adorama. I can't make up my mind which
on to buy. I also have an option of getting a 55-200mm VR (I think) for about
$250 on bhphotovideo. Has anyone tested the optical quality of these lenses? Are
they good? I need some help deciding.
Thanks for your help.

I own a Yashica MAT 124G (with Yashinon 80mm) and can testify that the crank handle is really really smooth, like a knife slicing through cucumber. I suggest you check it up. Also, these handles are delicate and its not a good idea to have to apply too much force on them.

Hi, does anybody know any good camera/photo sales shop who has a good collection
in the Phoenix/Tempe area? I know about Tempe Camera on University Drive, which
is pretty good. I needed to know some alternatives.
Thanks for your help.

I have a Yashica 124G MAT and i'm wondering which wide angle should I buy. I can use 52/55mm filter threads with it. I have seen a couple in adorama that had 52mm thread but did not know which lens quality would be good. The price ranges from 50s to several 100s USD. Does anyone happen to know about the quality?

Thanks David, can you tell me technically, what the X and the M does? I just started using the camera, so I dont know it in and out.
-
Thanks Michael. Is there a limitation on the shutter speed? Or I can just use whatever I want?

I am new into using a vivitar 91 flash with my yashica mat 124g. I can see a
dial but i dont know what it means or the adjustments that i can make on this
flash. please let me know if you have used one.

Frankly, I was thinking of rigging up some electronics. I discovered that someone has already implemented something similar. Take a look at this link: http://repairfaq.cis.upenn.edu/Misc/strbfaq.htm#strboaof
If you are good at electronics, you can modify the circuit with more safety devices and optimal for your flash voltage. It should be a easy go.
