1.
Bill - Thanks for the reply. I would like to get an accurate understanding of the latitude of certain mediums. I've been shooting 4x5 and would like to do a characteristic curve of some different films. I've also been shooting fp100b on my 4x5 camera and the latitude of that is much smaller. I'd like to be able to shoot something with a lot of steps (i.e. a step tablet or similar) so I can accurately gauge the film's latitude. I also shoot video on cinema cameras for work and I would like to have a similar tablet to photograph to have as a latitude reference.

JDM, thanks for the link, I will check that out as well.

  2.
I came across a Kalimar 60-300mm f4-5.6 zoom lens with Nikon mount. This lens does not seem to be able to manual focus when engaged on a Nikon DSLR body. There doesnt seem to be A-M focus switch. Is there any way to manually focus on Nikon DLSRs?

  3.
Paul, regardless of talking about incident or reflectance, the formula should stand, no? Aside from the K factor, what is the difference between taking an incident reading and a reflectance reading off 18% grey? Furthermore, the Sekonic 785C doesn't read FC in reflectance.

  4.
The K factor would not explain being 5-6 stops off. Please read the actual exposure formula in Ansel Adam's book. It has nothing to do with Zone system as it is just a formula to get to middle grey exposure. What tones you want to put into middle grey is completely up to the photographer.

  5.
So in p.66 of Book II, Ansel Adams outlines his exposure formula:

Square root of your ASA give you the key stop
Take your meter reading in c/ft^2 (foot-candles) and the inverse is the shutter speed at the key stop.

So if shooting ASA100, the key stop would be f/10. And if luminance value is 100FC, then the exposure is 1/100.

I'm trying to get this to work with my Sekonic 758C. I'm not coming in close. At f/10 and 100FC with ASA 100, my exposure reading is 1/8 second. Even taking into account a K factor, this is orders of magnitudes off.
Is there a difference between foot candles and foot candles squared? What am i doing wrong?

  6.
Here are the most recent emails I've sent to you:

    Re: Crown Graphic

    Tom,

It's been 13 days since your last message and I have neither received any emails from you nor the money order.

I am just curious how you would feel if the shoe were on the other foot. I paid you well over a month ago and never received a tracking number. I was continuously promised a tracking number for a week, and at the end of that week I was notified that the item was RETURNED TO SENDER.

Then I have your continual apologies and guarantees that the refund money order will be sent out "immediately" and yet here we are 13 days later with nothing to show.

A less patient person would have certainly jumped to some conclusions. For some reason, I've been willing to give you the benefit of doubt. However my patience is running thin and if we cannot resolve this issue within the next couple of days, I will be alerting the forum moderators of this problem.

Best,

David

    Tom,

Did you get my previous email about not receiving the MO? I have not received it since. Can check what its status is? I would like to resolve this issue as quickly as possible.

David

    Tom,

I tried to find your email on APUG but it's not there, at least not with the type account I have. If you mailed the MO on the 17th, you'll need to track it down because nothing was ever received on my end. Did you send it via certified mail? or with tracking?

    David

  7.
Tom,
I don't use photo.net for emails. I've sent you three emails from my email account davidave (AT) gmail (DOT) com and ALL of them have gone unanswered. Quite frankly I'm tired of playing these games with you. If you have sent the MO then provide a tracking number or proof of delivery. Excuse me if I don't believe everything you're going to say you'll do because I haven't seen ANYTHING from you.

  8.
@Tom Aellis
Tom,
This is David Fu. I bought a Crown Graphic with a 135 Optar from you on APUG. You said the camera was damaged in transit and returned to you. You said you would refund my money immediately and apologized profusely. That was on June 12th. I haven't received a single email from you with pictures of the damages like you said you would, nor have a received my refund. You haven't returned any of my messages on APUG so I've had to resort to chasing you around on the internet. What's going on?

David Fu

  9.
Yes, I am trying to take apart the leg and remove the brass bushing from the leg, as well as tube 42 from pivot block 38. Apparently there are different variations of the Tiltall that may or may have pressed or threaded parts. I'm looking for someone who actually has done this so I don't break my tripod trying to unscrew a pressed part. Anyone have any idea?

  10.
I am looking to disassemble a Leitz Tiltall I recently acquire from ebay. I found an exploded view diagram, but it is not detailed enough for me to read. I am trying to take apart the leg segments. I have unscrewed the leg locking mechanism, but I cannot remove the threaded washer that the locking ring attaches to. This is the diagram:
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_KH9N26b5O2c/SXocbfxAtNI/AAAAAAAABt8/HxIu2sPr8A8/s1600-h/Tiltall.png

The brass ring is what I am trying to remove:

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_KH9N26b5O2c/S5k7t05fDcI/AAAAAAAADhs/75W_PMqXBtU/s1600-h/Tiltall_Leg_Locks.jpg

  11.
Yeah I agree with Wayne's thinking too. In all my shooting with in 35mm, I tend to stick with my 50mm f-1.4. Sometimes it's good to be locked in focal length-wise. What are some other cheap "starter" cameras with adequate movements that you guys would recommend?

  12.
One more very critical point:

6. Focusing screen - Shen Hao uses ground glass while Tachihara uses fresnel. Apparently the fresnel is MUCH brighter than ground glass. Some photographer say they need to add (or is it replace the ground glass with) fresnel to make the screen brighter. Does that look anything like this: (http://cgi.ebay.com/Fresnel-Lens-for-Shen-hao-4-x-5-Camera_W0QQitemZ120536946347QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_FILM_CAMERAS?hash=item1c108fd6ab)
