Nothing new about this; the "water color, painterly" effects have been around for some time. But really, the look is artificial and immediately recognizable for what it is. Somehow that is off-putting.

Gus, your prattle is not worth my time. However, with that last outburst finally I discovered someone who is not only funny but who has literally “bought the farm”. That’s a first and I’m an old guy. I wish you nothing but the best. Pray hard.

Gus, you need to rethink your economics. The US inflation rate from 2006 through 2011 averaged just 2 percent annually. No one is dumping dollars, not even the Chinese. As someone already said, simple supply and demand issues probably explain what's going on with Leica lens prices.

Yes on MH, Brad, Fred G. Boring indeed. Reminds me, I'm old enough to remember the "Kodak Moment" ads with pictures which looked much the same. That "moment" has past however.

I use the Voightlander 20mm on a 5DII for street shooting (zone focus), nice combination.

Yikes, put a lens hood on it. Don't ruin it with a filter.

Oops, did not realize which forum I was in, not that it really matters. The CV lens is also configured for Nikon and I recommend it.

Try the Cossina Voightlander 20mm f3.5 in Canon mount. I find it equal in sharpness to the Canon 24mm f1.4 which I've used for several years. The CV is small, well built and inexpensive. It does not have AF but you don't need it. Zone focusing is simple with a lens this wide, and AF shutter delay is non-existent. Cossina manufactures the Carl Zeiss 35mm lenses and I think they have applied some of that expertise to the 20mm. I wish Canon would do the same: make some primes with L glass, but slower at the wide end.

Use the lens hood. Don't ever use a filter. Period.

There are two periods in street photography:

On my 5D I use the 24mm f2.8 for street shooting. Small, sharp, reasonable speed, great for working in close to people.
