  1. Does anyone have images that were shot with the 16 to 50 lens at 2.8 that they can post?....What i'd like to see is

images that were outside with plenty behind it....I want to see show it looks at 2.8...I am thinking about getting this

lens.....I have to decide get the lens or fight the 18 to 55 5.6 that i have now....

    Which....Which shooting with Jordan today i got out my old 28 by 80....Its a promaster,generic right?...Anyway...I

saw its a 3.5 to 5.6.....I was like 3.5 right on....But the shots blurred....I was shooting fairly slower shutter speed...

Anyway....So does anyone have a image that WAS shot at 2.8 with a 16 to 50 outside so i can see what it looks

like...I've not seen many,or maybe seen them in other threads not knowing they were shot with the 16 to 50 at 2.8

  2. Patrick...Note the number of threads started after this one with just images and no mod comment at all or those before it...I think its kind of obvious what that says..And the thread that was complaining about me that was closed but left to stand for number of days yet when i post a reply to some of those things my tread gets removed while the one being critical of me is left to stand...Again that makes a obvious statement....

And if images were competely disallowed from the forum it would slow down the forum extremely...The more restricted a forum is the less activity it will have, the less activity it has the less feed back it will get....The more interactive a forum is the more activity it will have, the more fun it is but too the more personality conflicts that will arise as more people come to a forum...Thats just a given...

  3. @Everyone....Hey no worries guys i was not upset...Remember when you read something its tough to know the emotion it was said with...i put please in all capitol letters to stress the politeness....Please is usually something you say when your trying to be polite.... =)

I wanted people to look in this thread and see not just pictures of kids but what we are taking them with...So someone sees a picture they like an they are like wow so an so got that with a K100D..Man thats a great shot and be more confident if they are thinking about getting one....Something like that...

    Dave is that at 2.8?....

Image i am posting....Jordans lil sister Gabi ahot with a *ist DL on a tripod no flash, available light,18 to 55 lens at 5.6 ...You dont use a flash when your shooting a sleeping child and risk waking them or startling them....<div>00RNan-85169584.jpg.e007f751eb3edb3c5be8d0a4264ad124.jpg</div>

  4. Child photography is not something i'm going to pursue very much. Its very challenging and the attention span is

    very short....

I made this thread for Pentax images of kids....Be it with a point an shoot or a SLR....

Please when posting a image be as gear specific as possible....So people viewing the thread can get a idea of the

gear thats creating the image...Pentax is as good of equipment as anything else...People can buy pentax, save a lot

of money over buying Nikon or Canon and have just as good of images...

Image i'm posting....I had a booth at a farmers market when this mom walked by with her daughter an i saw this

shot in my head...I offered to shoot some images of her daughter, after seeing a bit of my work the mom was sold on

the idea and this is one shot i came up with...The girl was looking at her mom....The bus was owned by one of the

    farmers...

I thought the outfit she had on was just too cute......Anyway...Post some kids images you shot with Pentax

This image shot with the Pentax *ist DL...Lens 18-55<div>00RN3L-84919784.jpg.8997b049ea021222457edf19bb0267dd.jpg</div>

  5. So far i can only find the 16 to 50 2.8 for 700....Used is only 100 less and i was warned on the board not to get a

used lens...Something about a problem with the first run of them...So If anyone knows of a place that has a sale on

them or a place that has better pricing...Someone suggested buying from a Canadian store...My concern there is

buying out of country you dont have the same garuntees as you have buying state side....Like with returning it or

knowing that what your getting is a new and not used or refurbished or what ever....It just seems like buying from

outside the US would not be too safe.....

I have determined to get both the camera and lens...It will give me a digital back up but more important as i start to

do weddings it will give me a second digital for who ever shoots the wedding with me which will most likely be

    Jordan...

    The 17-70 i was considering getting is only a couple hundred cheaper and i remembered i have a 28 by 80 lens...Its

a cheap lens by some company called pro-comp something off the wall like that....But its a range i like so the 17 by

    70,not so critical....

    ***************************************************************************************************************

    New thread....

Rather then making a new thread i'll try to kill 2 birds with one stone here in this thread....

I have a focal length question....How do you tell what focal length your lens is at?It does not say in the digital

display in the view finder...On the lens itself on the 18 to 55 its odd you can guess about where its at by how its

marked on the lens body but not spot on...Not exactly...Unless theres another way to tell that i dont know of...Thus

my question.....You can look at it and know that between 45 an 35 must be 40 but you'd not know if you were right

on 40....I guess it would'nt matter much....Are there any cameras that tell you what focal length your at in the

    viewfinder display?......

Its been asked a few times...My body is the *ist D an below it theres this big red spot with a white L so i am

assuming i have the *ist DL

It has gotten me some nice images....<div>00RMzb-84885584.jpg.aff0410fb6ce040538384abb3e9a6f5d.jpg</div>

  6. I have a Quantaray 2X teleconverter for Pentax....

I was aware that you lose 2 stops of light when using it....What i am wondering is it seems you also lose image

quality too....Knowing nothing about them, are there higher end teleconverters you can get shots with and not lose

any image quality and in using a 2X are you getting a true 2X with it?...If your getting a true 2X that might be hard to

    find out i guess....

Anyone have any exp. with teleconverters?...Should they only be used like on a tripod?...I would think a fast

enough shutter speed an you'd be fine....But then i know little about them...I want a good Heron shot really bad...I

have a number of pictures of Herons flying away lol....

  7. So....This brings about a question...I was going to start another thread for it...But if no one minds i'll ask it here....

Just what is the benefit of a 50-200 lens...A 70-300 seems to be a far better lens as theres more you can do with it...I have a 70-300....It must come down to preferance...

And with lenses the bigger the range the more moving parts you have this impacts IQ correct?...So that might be a advantage the 50-200 has over the 70-300???

And why isnt there a 2.8 70-300 for Pentax?

  8. Just reading through here and not sure what the intent of the first post...What use of the images is intended.....

For portfolio use a model release is NOT needed....If your planning on using the images for any monitary gain you need a release and the model should be paid for her services....What i run into a lot is photographers wanting something for nothing...They want the model to come pose for them for their portfolio and they want a release signed so they can proffit if they can in some way from the images while the model does not get paid for posing and her time....

IF...If the images are taken with the intent of possible commercial use or selling the model should be paid period...Not here pose for these pictures maybe i'll pay you later IF i can get something for them.....Photographers shoot stock images with models all the time and NOT paying them..Again wanting to get something and not pay for it...Which is wrong...TFP stands for "Time For Print" not "Time For Profit"

Again..For a TFP shoot, where its soley for the portfolio you absolutely do not need a release and the photographer always holds the rights to a image be it the image is water marked or not it does not matter...

I once had a model take my images, gave them to a re-toucher,he did some editing on them and then he put HIS name on the images.....I sent him a note with a lot of very unfriendly language....Ending it with pending legal action if the images were not deleted.Within hours they were gone....I was livid as any photographer would be...One of my photographer friends said he'd of shown up on his door step that night....If a model uses your images for profit without a signed release from you she or the company using the images can be sued....Release has to come from the photographer for the model to use them other then in a portfolio.....

I had to learn all this as i had a model threaten to sue a photographer that i had set up a shoot for her with...She agreed to sign a release,he posted the images to his portfolio, she got all bitchy and said you dont have the signed release yet you cant do that i'm going to sue...Yeah shes got no case...No suit was ever filed or would be in something thats just a portfolio shoot...A lot of people dont know this or get confused on it....<div>00RMtx-84835784.jpg.d26fbc854e36a0115e74ed4425c6ce2d.jpg</div>

  9. As posted i have seen the K20D at 829 at Abes of Maine but...Dealing with a shop i have no idea about is it a gray market camera,is it a refurbished one i mean unless you deal with B&H or Adorama how do you know?...I have heard a number of detailed complaints against Broadway photo.....
  10. I know Pentax does not make sensors thats why i said Samsung made....

I am thinking there has to be a extreme differance in the K20D over the ist that would equate to getting a better image....I have read of the K20D's much improved IQ.....

If i kept my ist and just got the higher end lens i am not improving my image quality as much as if i were to get the better body....Or so thats my thinking...And in that i understand i very well could be wrong....Thus the forum....Where theres so much good help....<div>00RM0D-84429784.jpg.d2cb9aae787eef23b38abcb690066a10.jpg</div>

  11. The K20D sensor is a samsung sensor....I was told Samsung is a leader in the electronics and computer industry

so that sensor is probably pretty close to top of the line...Does any one know how they,Samsung, rates for sensor

designs and who manufactures the best sensor?...Which i am sure is up for debate and some cameras the sensor i

would think would be close if not the same...Camera lines out there you have Fuji,Sony,Nikon,Canon,Sigma and

Pentax in terms of DSLRs and i'd think that most all use very similar sensor technology....

  12. Thankyou everyone...I figured i was probably the only one who didnt know about this when i learned but thought i

would say something none the less...If it helps even one person, saves them from damaging their camera then its

worth showing how much i dont know by posting such a comment.Like with the shutter speed and someone pointing

out how stupid i was for not knowing that....

My next lens will be a 50mm and at least now i know what to avoid more specifically, which the problem sounds as

its more rare then a common thing....

Jemal....Wow glad you didnt damage your camera.....

  13. @ Maria....A certain amount of what you said i know...For her first shoot i'm not going to give her too much...I want her first and foremost to get comfortable in front of the camera, refining the posing comes later...I started out with 2 basic things..Suck in her stomache and keep her hands flat never curled...With my models i have them ALWAYS in the habit of sucking in even Jordan because some posing positions if you dont you can look like you have a bit of a tummy.Ots just a good habit to have.

The main thing with this shoot was that i was keeping in mind my shutter speed and focal length and making sure it was fast enough...

The potential model it was her very first shoot ever so i was just trying to get her use to the idea of being in front of the camera...The layers of clothers as it was very cold and raining...If it was Jordan she would be in a lot less but Jordans very experienced she can handle the cold and pass a look of being comfortable...

Thanks for the additional pointers all good things to know and work on.I did copy what you said and e-mailed it to myself.I will reread it a number of times as a way of getting more from it..lol you must know how to type,i dont i hunt and peck....Hope your having a great weekend.....

  14. I was wondering....I was told the older Pentax lenses, now i dont know if this goes for Pentax manufactured lenses

or other makers...But anyway...I was told on the older film lenes which will work with digital, but on the older lenses

theres something to do with the mount that can damage the body specifically the auto focusing....

If you know about this, and more information could be posted on this, this might help anyone new as well as

myself..This was told to me by a old Pentax shooter...Well older guy........But basially using the lens will damage

the auto focusing mechinism of the body....

  15. @Gary Ian Young...Love that image and the effct of the sun rays...Really nice...

    @Andrew....Wow man...Very cool!!!

    @Fredrik...Thats a great shot...

@Haig.....Thats sooo cool it looks like some classic image from the old days like the 80s or 70s

@George C... You sir are amazing...That image is absolutely perfect!!!

I saw some things on some images that did not sit well with me but A)I am in no position to point out what i see as possible faults and B)Every time i have in the past i feel bad about it....

  16. I went to pick up Jordan for a shoot, with me was another model Monica...We were shooting at a waterfall up in the

mountains..Since it was a long drive my camera was burried in the back of the car...Walking up to Jordans house

    within a stones throw a Bald Eagle landed with a fish,on a side road...Simply amazing!!!Gaint bird that close...I knew

theres no way i'd get my camera in time and there was no real shot there, not a very good composition..Monica had

her lil point an shot out of her purse an got a few pictures before it flew off...

Well a few minutes later he came soaring back and landed on the neighbors roof...I went to my car,dug out my

camera and as always had the wrong lens on,switched quickly to my 70-300 trying not to break anything as excited i

was...Set my shutter speed to what i though it should be.Brough the camera up an took one shot without

looking..Brough it back down, looked, knew i needed to be 3 stops down, adjusted and brought it back up in time to

get 2 shots of him on the roof an then he flew...

Tracking a moving bird is a lot harder then one might think...Note in the image i caught his wings at full

extention....In the 12 by 18 print you can see the individual feathers pretty clearly and blood on his beak...This is a

once in a life time shot....

The image is from 2007 hope thats okay...Or do they have to be 2008 images?<div>00RLkP-84281584.jpg.8c0b0cac3299520970958cfa89e3354d.jpg</div>

  17. In one thread about shutter speed and focal length greatly improved and changed how i

shoot...Gary,Andrew,Michael and others who helped me in that thread all getting a big hug!!!

Below is a image I shot today bearing in mind my focal length and shutter speed...

The model is 15yr old 6'-1" Vivian....Who i'll be working with after a 2 hour meeting with her mom and on the basis

that Vivian re-enters school, stops smoking and remains substance free....Next step is to cut her hair so its more

managable and can be styled in a number of ways...Shes already had 1 peron tell her she could never model...To me

    that sounds like a challenge.....

Image....Shot with *ist an 18 to 55 lens at f4.5, shutter speed at 750....Conditions overcast...

I did check out the critics area....Saw a number of images where no one commented on and all of the image i saw

there were far better then anything i shoot...No way my images are worthy of that section of the forum....

Vivian and i will be shooting all day tomorrow and due to the familys financial situation i am going to have to buy her

    clothes for shooting as well....

Feel free to break the image down...Considering though its her first time stepping in front of the camera<div>00RLk3-84277584.thumb.jpg.5a166389300d5091ab139be7ab7fb35a.jpg</div>

  18. Andrew...I think he said D5...But you could be right......A Nikon friend of mine was not long ago talking about this new Fuji camera and he said to get it he'd sell his D300 and his truck lol...

Heres what i want....Pentax full frame sensor,20 mega pixel camera with a 16 to 70 2.8 lens....Thats my perfect set up....Oh and a flash unit that has a built in bug zapper...Still not giving up on that idea =)
