1.
The sky is way blown out, that's the problem. If you think the 20/1.8G is performing poorly in this situation, I would challenge you to show a lens that does better? Not even a Summicron is going to handle that gracefully.

 2.
Never have given any of the digital M's a passing thought. After looking at several M10 videos and reading the specs and all, it's appealing. They have the ISO up where it belongs for a street shooter, and the ergonomics and menu set-ups look very good. $6500 isn't chump change by any measure, but in Leica-land, it's 'reasonable'.

 3.
I recently picked up the barn door hood for my Summitar, and it's growing on me. Very compact when folded, unfolds and mounts quickly and easily, and doesn't cause big problems with the M6 or IIIf finders. Shades the front element like, well, Hollywood. Looks kind of cool too :-)

 4.
It does look remarkably good.

BTW, I'm jumping back into the world of Leica :-) Just bought an M6 to use with a beautiful old Summitar 5cm 1:2 given to me a couple years ago. Currently dusting off the old darkroom gear.

 5.
RIP Tom. Thank you for all the fine accessories that I have used and enjoyed, and will continue to enjoy for years to come.

 6.
The lenses don't change, rather the DXOMark calculations change. This is a big reason why I put very little faith in DXOMark scores.

 7.
Maybe Nikon will surprises us with some really cool retro-gear. :-D

 8.
I'm in for one. Assuming it is a logical evolution of the Df, e.g D5 sensor, fancier housing, improved AF (kinda meh on this one), control operations refined, and maybe some fancy new Df lenses too :-)

 9.
Agree. My D800 still provides all the performance I need in the studio. My Df is still great for everything else. No actual need to upgrade. Although, I will buy the Df. 2 whenever it comes out, just because I want to.

 10.
Plus one on the 70-200/4, very sharp lens, good VR, more compact to match the D7000 body size.

 11.
I've purchased several high-end Sigmas over the years. They all had issues, which resulted in me selling them. Now I only shoot genuine Nikkors. YMMV.

 12.
I tested several of these class of lenses and concluded that the humble 80-200/f4.5-5.6D-AF lens was among the best of class. Very inexpensive too.

 13.
No. That's normal operation.

 14.
For the same price, I'd get it from Nikon for the warranty and access to service.

 15.
I remember the local camera shop salesman showing me how to clean the reflex mirror using a huff of his breath and a Q-Tip on a brand new F5. Somebody bought that camera, but it wasn't me ;-)

 16.
Something bright for indoor family shots, like the 24/1.4G Nikkor would be great.

 17.
Nikon's 50/1.8G lens won't disappoint.

 18.
What a treat :-) A post from photo.net founder and author of Travels with Samantha, Philip Greenspun.

 19.
The 28-70/2.8 AF-S is a big honking lens, and I sold it for that reason.

 20.
Since you have the 50, suggest a 28/2.8D and a portrait/short telephoto. Maybe the 85/1.8D or 105/2.8 Micro, or 105/2.0D.

If you'd consider a zoom, the 28-70/f3.5-4.5D is a remarkably good lens that can be had for a song these days. Also, the 80-200/4.5-5.6D is surprisingly good, again, for a song.

Good luck.

 21.
Impressive. Looking forward to hearing about optical performance, but I'd be surprised if it isn't very good. Probably looking and the new portrait lens standard-bearer. Time will tell.

 22.
I bought the PF the day it became avaialbe, and mine had the VR issue in the 1/60-1/180 shutter speed range. I sent it back to Nikon, they did a firmware update. It has since been fine, running on a Df and D800. I also have the 70-200/4 VR lens, and IMHO, the VR functions and sharpness are about the same. Buy with confidence, it's a great little 300mm.

 23.

Expect those new features will be added to the successor to the D810, most likely in the 2nd half of 2016

Interesting, and wonder if a Df upgrade might be in the offing with similar feature improvements?

 24.
Sounds like you should sell the F6 once repaired. Then, go with the F100, they are plentiful and cheap, not to mention great cameras with a good reliability record.
