1.
As a Catholic who has been around priests for a long time I would just ask. They are human just like us. Of course it would help if your subject is a member of the church you plan on using or at least Catholic but it won't hurt to ask.

If you are doing it as art rather then something like senior photos make sure the priest understands that also. You certainly aren't going to seem insensitive, especially if the priest understands you aren't Catholic.

What I'm curious about is what you consider "old school" confessionals, and if you're not Catholic how do you know what the light is like in a particular confessional? Just curious since they all seem to be different from church to church.

 2.
Thanks for the link Dave, fantastic reading and viewpoints. I am surprised with the artist community's response by further reproducing the image in protest. How would most of them feel if someone did that to their work?

Susan's response is honorable and worthy of praise. She chose to present a verbal argument to the community instead of a legal one to a judge or jury. I wonder how many of them got her point?

 3.
With Canon cameras there are a couple of places you can enter the owner's name and copy write info so it shows up in the EXIF data. If Nikon is the same and you have a memory card that will work with the D40 perhaps taking a photo and examining the EXIF data will reveal a name.

 4.
My Canon G10 has the capability and I'm pretty sure the G11 and new G12 do also. The software comes on a disk with the camera, it's part of the Camera Window program and is launched as Remote Capture DC.

Most of the Canon software is backwards compatible as far as I know so if you come by an older G series Canon you should be able to download the newer dirvers, etc. from Canon's web site. You do need to have an original version (doesn't matter how old) in order to install the upgrade.

I'm not familiar with Mac OSs so I can't say for sure there wouldn't be an issue with that. If no one else can help you on here then you might want to try Photography-on-the.net forum, it's a Canon forum with a forum just for the G series cameras.

 5.
I've followed Joao for many years, he was one of a group of photographers in South Africa known as the Bang Bang Club.

His work in Afghanistan covers many years and many angles. When the Taliban ruled and Al-Quida had free reign to fund, train and run terroist groups from there he snuck into Afghanistan and photographed how horrible life was under the Taliban, especially for women. The Taliban put a price on his head.

Later during the war to drive them out he was back and came under criticism in some quarters because he managed to spend some time with the insurgents. In one photo he shows an insurgent sniper taking aim at a Coalition soldier.

To me Joao is a true photo journalist, documenting conflict from all sides and as honestly as possible. I pray he has a speedy recovery and no long term affects from this.

 6.
I understand what you're saying paul. I'm retired from a Federal agency. Depending where you worked and what your job was the "no personal phone calls" would be strictly enforced.

Using their computers for "occasional and limited" personal use was OK at one time. Then the net filters hit, including PN. Even Pbase was on the list. Then they decided personal use of computers on company time wasn't such a good thing. Get caught, get fired.

To be honest, I understand it. I don't see any difference between that and something like using the lathe in a machine shop to turn out a personal project while on company time.

 7.
I can't answer your question about PSP HDR but with only two images wouldn't it be better to overlay the room exposure on top of the windows exposure and then erase the windows in the top layer to allow the properly exposed windows to show though? I'm sure there are probably a couple of other techniques that would work as well. HDR with only two images doesn't sound right to me..........
