  1. I was terrified to do it, but I finally got rid of stubborn dust spots on my M10 using a visible dust swab of the correct size - tiny bit of the liquid and a single swipe. This was after blowing failed to dislodge the dust.
  2. I don't think Leica see the M10-P as their main digital M product: that remains the M10. Unlike most other camera makers, they are willing to put out small runs of cameras that are very strictly designed to appeal to a specific niche - in this case, people who want the convenience of digital, but love minimalism. I gave up buying Canons exactly because I felt overwhelmed by choice. To me, Leica M simplicity and lack of features was a huge plus. When a friend of mine asked me why I was willing to spend so much money on a camera, I said "I am paying for lack of features." The many features of my previous Canon SLR did not help me take better photographs, they (for me anyway) were a distraction. That being said, if I was buying today, I would stick with the M10, rather than the M10-P. I can turn the screen review off, but I find it useful. What is really nice about the 10 (when compared with the previous model) is that on actual shoots, I can make all the adjustments I want (iso, f stop, shutter speed, focus) without looking at the screen. I am sure that M10 sales will far exceed M10-P sales. I suspect that Leica will eventually announce a monochrome M10, and that will be popular, because it effectively quadruples the resolution of the sensor.
  3. Leica M10-D // Leica M-System // Photography - Leica Camera AG Leica as announced the M10-D - no display back. Most unusual though, is that the camera has a film wind lever: which, of course, Leica calls something else: a fold-out thumb rest. I am a fan of minimalism, so, in general, I like the idea of the most simple digital M possible, but the fold-out seems like a strange design choice to me.
  4. Last night, towards the end of our photography class, we talked about Ansel Adam's "Moonriose, Hernandez". When I left the class (at about 9:40pm), I saw this scene. Taken with my M10, Summilux 50mm lens, 1/250th second at f1.4. Converted to B&W in Lightroom.
  5. For the M10 you need the Leica Visoflex (Typ 020)- not the same one used on a 240
  6. Summicron 35mm, M10. Cosplayer Selfie at the Vancouver Convention Centre, Fan Expo 2018.
  7. I have been reading "Physics of Digital Photography" by Andy Rowlands. It is technical, but it has opened my eyes to the complexity of digital image processing. Just as one example are the many steps required to convert the RAW data into an acceptable image on the screen while avoiding strange artifacts in the image. Not to mention getting the colour right. And on it goes. The people who write all this software have to be not only dedicated to the craft of programming, but need to be good mathematicians too. My point is that someone has to pay for all this expertise. Sure, some people are getting very rich. But your average Adobe or Apple software engineer is not. I want Adobe to continue to be able to afford the best programmers they can into the foreseeable future. Lightroom is a remarkable piece of software. There are non-subscription options too, and lets hope those companies can survive. No one is posting a question like "where can I get a free 40Mp digital Camera with a great 35mm-80mm lens?". Or where can I get a free MacBook Pro. In my (probably unpopular opinion), if you are willing to buy a digital Camera, you should include in your budget the cost of good image processing software.
  8. Thanks for the link. I wonder why Nikon bothers offering uncompressed?
  9. Why does the Z 7 offer "Uncompressed" and "Lossless Compressed" modes for saving RAW files? Any advantage to uncompressed? Processing time, perhaps?
  10. Thanks for the kind words, Arthur. The Summilux 50mm ASPH is an incredible lens.
  11. Leica M10, Summilux 50mm. Volunteer Appreciation party, Vancouver Fringe Festival 2018.
  12. Leica Super-Elmar 21mm, M10. Track issues caused delays and overcrowding on Vancouver's Canda Line train today. This was NOT rush hour!
  13. Thanks to all in chimed in. My course starts next month. This is my film camera .... M2 with Voigtlander VC II meter.
  14. Cambie Village, Vancouver. Summicron 35mm.
  15. 35mm Summicron. Cambie Village, Vancouver.
  16. 35mm Summicron, Whistler BC, Crankworx 2018
  17. Today, Leica announced the M10-P - an M10 with these enhancements: - Quieter Shutter - No red dot - Touch screen for control during Live View and Playback The sensor is unchanged, as is the body (except for the missing red dot). I am not tempted to upgrade, but I wonder what others think?
  18. Thanks for that - but I don't see how to distinguish between the M2's made in Canada and the others. Am I missing something?
  19. I am looking at an M2 that is in this range. Can you tell me where you got those numbers?
  20. No such luck, Arthur. We were on a walk, and the owner was showing it off (very proudly) to some friends of his. The inside looks as good as the outside! I don't know if he has done any engine or electrical upgrades, but he does use it to get around! The minimal set of dials and knobs inside was just great: I am so turned off with the instrument collection and computer panels in most new cars.
  21. A couple of sites have announced the new Elpro 52 - an accessory lens for turning "select" M and TL lenses into Macro lenses. The 52 is for the 52mm thread, which does not exist on any M lenses. However, the Elpro comes with a 46mm and 49mm stepper, so that you can use it on some M Lenses (like the Summicron 75mm). But for other filter thread sizes (like the 39mm on the Summicron 35), you will need a third part step down adaptor. After some searching, I did find a page with links to downloadable PDFs: here. To save you some trouble, here is the PDF file converted to JPEGs.
