Hi Jerry:
In my first statement, I meant to say you have a "clean lens and CCD" so problem is
somewhere else. Sorry, should have made this clear.
Second statement, I had some specs of dust on the back lens of my 40-150mm that
showed as sort of shadows or out of focus or hallowed particles in pictures. Sure enough,
cleaning the back lens cleared my problem. Too late for the photographs I had taken that
day.

Hi Anthony,
Could be from four sources, depending on the following tests.
Photographs do not show black dots = Clean CCD and lens.
Dots could be on mirror, on viewfinder grid or inside viewfinder chamber (most likely the
last two if dots really look into focus )
Photographs show in focus dots = Most likely on CCD
Photographs show out of focus dots = Most likely dirty lens
Photographs taken without lens attached show dots = definitely on CCD
Hope this helps!

I use an Epson P-4000 Multimedia Storage Viewer (80GB). It reads CF and SD Cards and has
Hi-Speed USB 2.0 interface. Features a 3.8" High Density display and Lithium Ion battery that
seem to last for ever. It also plays MP3 and AAC audio and MPEG4 video. Great little machine
that fits in my camera bag.

>>Why do you have so much dust in the first place? Prevention could be easier than the cure...
I wish I knew. Thanks for your help!

Andrzej Wrotniak has an extensive list of lenses from olympus as well as other
manufacturers, including leica and Sigma here:

Also, The Four-Thirds Website shows the new Four-Thirds Lens Catalog here:

Hope this helps you out!

Hi Ronaldo,
I would leave it alone, but all that dust is always in focus and so always distracting!

Hi all,
There is a good amount of dust inside my E-500 viewfinder chamber, just on top of the focusing glass. I
guess it got in there from the sucking and blowing action of both my zooms (14-45 & 40-150), as a
matter of fact I can feel the air going throught the viewfinder and against my eye when using the zooms
so I'm pretty sure that this is how it got in there.
Now, does any of you guys now how I could get these dust particals out of there or should I send the
camera in for cleaning. I've only had the camera (bought new) since september. Could become quite costly
if I have to get it cleaned every three months!
Thanks in advance for your thoughts or directions!

Hi Larrry,
Unless you really like the feel of the 300 in your hand, I'd keep the 500. The 500 as a few
more features:
Highlight & Shadow based spot Metering,
Compact Flash (Type I or II) + xD Picture Card Storage,
Bigger 2.5" 215,000pixels display,
And a lot lighter (479 g) to carry around,
I only own the 500 so I can't compare the viewfinders, you're in a better position to
compare and appreciate this.
