<p>finally got out and about with my bum arm and it was as I had feared, last weeks frost did in my sites of late blooming ladies slippers only a few survived, one particular softball sized clump had 7 dead buds, would have made a great shot</p><div></div>

<p>That last one was sorta handheld, was perched on that mossy log and rested the camera on another log for the longish exposure.</p><div></div>

<p>The woods around here are a mess of downed trees from last years derecheo and Sandy dumping wet snow on us, finding crick scenes that aren't clogged with brush has been difficult so I tried this little crick that I had never explored before and was glad I did found some decent scenes and several large morels for dinner!</p><div></div>

<p>while doing a little botanizing was looking around a site of heart-leaved twayblade for photo ops and found 2 three leafers, but of course both weren't very photogenic plants and this one was inbetween two downed trees and it was impossible to use the tripod, but at least I got a "proof of find" photo. For those unfamiliar these are really small plants, a big one may reach 6 inches with gnat or mosquito sized flowers, not easy to find or photo and when you do find a site it's nerve wracking moving around and trying to photograph without crushing any plants, this is getting long winded but its a hobby of mine and I pretty excited, Doug will understand.</p><div></div>

<p>did a lot of handholding shots yesterday due to windy conditions, really like the k-5 and being confident in using the higher iso's to get fast enough shutter speeds to handhold and freeze the wind motion.</p><div></div>

<p>I try not to go past f-16 if I can help it, try to line up the elements you want in focus so they are parallel to the film/sensor plane helps some. I like doing wildflowers and a little manipulation of the subject helps.</p>
