  1. I don't think there is an "ideal age" to start photographing children..Hospitals usually offer shots from day one for parents.....and for me children are one of the most inspiring subjects to photograph. I usually try and not use flash, because I like the effect of natural light...plus flash is annoying to adults...think what it must be like for a newborn experiencing life outside the womb for the first time.

Enjoy your experience of photographing children..

  2. I also shoot basketball and other sports shots for the local high school...you might try some tighter cropping, especially on the "action" shots...if not in the orginal shot you can use one of the several photo programs. And as always...practice practice practice...Happy Shooting!!!
  3. I "discovered" this solution while taking action sports shots...I'm using a Canon 20D, usually with a Canon 70-300mm lens. I too missed shots waiting for the lens to "autofocus" and it is much faster to manually focus. So, anyway, give it a try and see what you think...by the way my eyesite is "aged" and not that good but so far hasn't created a problem.
  4. I've got about 30 years of experience shooting photos...and yes have been through the film to digital transformation. I have to admit that some of my best photos have been taken with less expensive cameras. I've never sold my photos...but use photography as a means of sharing my experience and places with family and friends. Recently I have been taking people pictures...family, sporting events, and the like, capturing moments to preserve so one can have a photo to remember a once in a lifetime event.
  5. I agree camera doesn't really matter. I recently bought a Canon 20d with full compliment of lenses for a lot of money..I also have a Fujifilm S5000 that makes every bit as good of picture as the Canon for a lot less money. Only short point of the Fuji is on rapid shots...
  6. I've been using a Digital Camera for the past two years and have found that using two medium capacity cards the best. That way you always have a backup in case of problems. I download to my computer after each photo shoot. If on a roadtrip I use a laptop to download to. If you don't have that resource you can always use a photo shop along the way to copy your card photos to a CD. Then you can erase or reformat your media and start all over!!!!
  7. There are always two sides to every story. I worked as a Probation Officer for several years. Underlying all police activity is Officer and Public Safety. If the officers thought the picture taking citizen was endangering himself or others they should have asked him to not do it or do it from a safe vantage point. Certainly not arrest him. Hopefully the matter will be resolved by an impartial investigation and not the cumbersome and drawn out "law" process
  8. I recently sent my Canon 20D to Canon Factory Repair in Irvine, CA for repair. I had managed to get dust on the sensor and behind the screen of the LCD after a dusty roadtrip and a season of shooting little league pictures. I had tried to clean the sensor myself and only made matters worse! I called Canon Repair and the folks in Irvine were very helpful. I registered my repair through their online service and sent it in on the 17th of July 2006. They cleaned the sensor, LCD, mirror, view finder...a general complete cleaning and checked all functions. They noted that the problem was not covered by the limited warranty, but provided the service as a courtesy. The camera was returned and back in my hands on July 26th 2006. I was quite pleased and highly recommend Canon's Irvine Repair Center. I feel they truly evaluate each case and make repairs in both their and the customer's best interest.

What I would appreciate from forum member's is some advice on how to prevent a reoccurrence of the dust problem. I'll always shoot under the same conditions..any way to reduce dust getting in the camera and behind LCD? No problem if you want to email me a response. gandy707@yahoo.com
