  1. Emma Madison Photography ... but then people will think your name is Emma. I named my

business after my two babies - Roxy and Kai Photography - and people always think my

name is Roxy. After I tell them who Roxy and Kai are, though, they think it's cute and

remember my real name. I started out doing children's photography, which is why I went with

my babies names. They were such an inspiration for me, so I loved the idea of Roxy and Kai

    Photography.

    Whatever you decide, good luck!

  2. Congrats Amanda!!!!! I just got in a few weeks ago, so I know the feeling! Get ready for a big

business boom! I've already booked three weddings from the WPJA - in January alone!

  3. To answer your question avijit - I actually am getting married in October. My wedding

photog, Bobbi, is AWESOME! She takes GREAT photos and offers a high-res disc, which is

exactly what I wanted. I really wanted to design my own album since I have a graphic design

background (as well as photography, obviously). Her site is : www.bybobbi.com

You mention an upside being that us CD-givers don't have to mess with photoshop. I edit all

my pics before burning the CD, just like I would if I were selling prints, so no time saved

    there.

  4. Wait a minute - you sell the CD with print packages???!?!?!

Sooooo ... all this high and mighty talk about not letting people email photos like they're just

measly snapshots is just for us who charge LESS than you?!?!

I give prints with my CD, too. So we're doing the same thing. You're just charging more.

How hypocritical is EVERYTHING you said above then??? Now who's lowering the profession.

  5. I don't treat my photos like snapshots. I think you can see that from my site.

And I am NOT lowering myself in any way.

I say I give the CD away, but maybe you noticed they have to buy a package that costs them

almost two grand. It's marketing. I'm not really giving anything away. They pay for the CD

    with the package.

I think we'll have to agree to disagree. This could go on FOREVER.

  6. Russ : You may have decided to give away your rights to the pictures you have taken.

THAT is the only thing that has changed since film was the standard in wedding

    photography.

No, the whole WORLD has changed since film was standard ...

People are more impatient - they don't want to wait even an hour to see their photos.

People don't send prints to everyone they know, they EMAIL a picture to everyone they

know. People walk around with iPods that hold photos, phones that take photos and

digital cameras in their pockets. They make TOY DIGITAL CAMERAS so even TODDLERS can

    take digital photos now.

I'm not saying that digital made everyone a good photographer - I'd argue EXACTLY the

opposite. But digital HAS changed what people want, what they expect and what is in

demand when it comes to photographers, be it in weddings, portraits or whatever. To say

it hasn't is just being silly.

Change isn't always bad, you know. Adaptation is a wonderful thing.

  7. Come on Russ ... you think your clients aren't scanning in the proofs you give them and

printing those on their home printers? Which do you think looks better - the print they

made from my edited, high-res file or the print they made from your little, watermarked

    proof?

Digital did change things - A LOT. If you think it didn't, you're clueless!

I give all my clients a set of prints from White House with GOOD color so they know what

to look for when making reprints. The rest is up to them. I'm not overly paranoid about

what happens after that. I have enough other things to lose sleep over, thank you.

  8. Allison says : you want to stress the importance of experience and quality of you versus

some kid with a new flashy camera who calls himself a professional, but yet holds no

integrity to the business by "whoring" himself out at the lowest price.

WHORING?? Are you kidding me Allison?

Changing with the times and offering people what they want is not whoring ourselves out.

I offer a disc to every customer I have and have been very happy doing so. If you want to

keep fighting the inevitable, go right ahead. You're the one whose business will go down

the drain ... and it'll be your own fault.

Digital changed photography. Don't be STUBBORN AND BITTER ... just learn to deal with it

    and adapt accordingly.
