A flock of pigeons were circling the park at low height. This photo
was shot with the group coming straight at the camera about 15 feet
away. They were quite fast, at one point I got scared they will hit me
on the face :)
This is straight photo, with no digital effects. Any critique or
suggestions welcome.

Hi Bela,
Your comments are spot on. Newer digitals only have higher ISO advantage. I am trying some birds photography and for stop action shooting (birds in flight), you need as fast a shutter speed as you can get. I have used ISO 500 with Fuji and after this I get noise.
Also with 24 mega pixel camera, you get lot of room to crop the image. Typically we have to use very high focal length to shoot small birds. 500mm lenses are very expensive and they have their own set of problems. High pixel density can be helpful there.
Technology is becoming cheaper, so we should get more for less money (at least that is the expectation). I would have bought D600 if not for the dust problem.

Sherry, thanks for the critique. I find for sharp pictures of birds, fast shutter speed is a must. This was shot at ISO 500 in broad daylight. At higher ISO I start getting noise. Full frame sensors seem to have distinct advantage in this area. May be next upgrade...

Mike, Glad you like it. Thanks for the critique.
Mitch, in landscape photos, the grand view evokes the feeling of being there (as the eye can see). I seem to use 16mm (dx) focal length very often.
Bela, thanks for critique. Fuji S5 is very capable camera for landscapes and its dynamic range is astounding. I am thinking about upgrade but dust issues of D600 put me off. I will wait for next version of D7000 or may be D800. Too bad Fuji is not into SLR market anymore.
Happy new year to all... Sandeep

Rework of my photo by the same name. The light in the foreground
buildings and the clouds has been slightly increased. Comments
welcome.

These ducks were doing interesting manuvers so fast, it was hard to
keep them in frame. After many attempts, I got one sharp photo. Let
me know how it looks...

Thank you Larry for a thoughtful critique. I will try the crop. Panoramic landscapes look beautiful in this type of scene. Happy new year to you.

Ok, it is a Squirrel, not a chipmunk. The bushy tail gives them away...

Thank you Landrum. Glad the photo captures the moment as seen from the naked eye. Happy new year to you.
