It's both superb and intriguing...I found the different trajectories to add a kind of mystery mood like if the beasts spent the whole night in frenetic activities while we were sleeping...
-
I really enjoy the light and color...it creates a moody image with lot of charm (you title brings it back to hard reality though)...
-
Thanks Fred and Koushik for your comments...
Fred..I guess low and smooth light help a lot...everything seem easier with that kind of light...
Koushik...they was no clouds that evening, so filling the frame above was only possible with the branches...
-
you're not guilty :-) ...it was just a personal observation from me and I would accept people tell me they have other opinion on this crop matter...a wonderful documentary image anyway...
-
the lamp shadow looks like a giant butterfly...in fact more frightening than a butterfly...I really like the mood of this images...quite a contrast between the Fellini book and the $Million poster on the wall...
-
the green tape scotch looks like an intruder...no wonder Jack was the first to comment....
-
the tree shadow is intimidating...I would'nt stay long ignoring the sign...very nice light and lots of details...
-
with the low PoV...it looks so proud...this kind of neon signs seems from the 70's, isn't it ?

I have no romantic idea of poverty Michael not at all...quite the contrary in fact...it's strange you say that because I have neved said poor people seemed or needed romantic photography...
What I don't like is images that are tailored to make the viewer cry or tailored to result in pity in the viewers eyes...what is needed if you want to help people is an honest view of the situation, not to dramatize and not to minimize....it is not pity that is needed but help...help is much more efficient when the situation is honestly described...just honest photography like Mc Curry, Bendiksen and others...
I am not commenting the situation of these people (I have immense respect)...I don't know what their true situation and feelings are but it's certainly not this kind of sensational photography that could help me make an honest opinion...
I am commenting the photography, the manipulation and the editing...nothing else...

A superb picture where we physically see the distance and separation...it reminds of an image from you I commented some 2-3 years ago where the windows element were arranged in a kind of target sight on the man behind the window if you know what image I mean...ah these semi transparent glasses are very nicely bringing mood...
-
Busy but well organised....quite a dense area to live in...I particularly like how the beige color respond to each other left and right...
-
those huge diagonal shadows create a kind of psychodrama...it's all in the viewers eyes...one of these cut Hitchcock could have used together with some musci to raise the drama level before action...
-
very nice documentary...I appreciate this kind of images that show people as they are, doing simply what they do...without sensational, showing context, allowing the viewer to get a clear understanding of the picture, with no political additional rant...we have lots of attempt at sensationalism all over the press...so I wanted to say I appreciate this image very much...thanks for sharing...if you have others as this one, please keep them coming...with honest photography, you might get less rates and views than with your more sensational attempts, but you'll get credibitity and respect...much better values in my opinion...

I definitely prefer the color version (not a big suprise I seem to a be a color only type of guy)...a slice of life where a very mall buisness meets another small or medium one...I also see it has a document showing how difficult it is for some old people (including in our developped countries) to get a decent living where some continue to work in small activities because the retirement pension is not enough...
-
the juxtaposition of reflected elements with the paint make it more complex just like in life...a clear vision is always mixed up with a great number of things going on in parallel...
-
Jack, Linda, Jeff and Pnina for your comments...
-
very original for me...a king of mix in 60's american BW grainy photography styles with some modern colour hard light styles....I enjoy it very much for being different that what I typically see...it feels fresh...thanks for the air...
-
those whispering colors are hard to resist...the texture of the semi transparent glass is very well rendered too...once again touring your new uploads proved a quote I like very much from Elliott Erwitt "It's about reacting to what you see, hopefully without preconception. You can find pictures anywhere. It's simply a matter of noticing things and organizing them."

I have really nom clue what it is....and it's probably why I like it very much...
-
I like it for the sense of mystery it conveys...the back light has something sensual in it...a pleasure to look at Drew...
-
Personaly, in this image I see hope...I also see jewerly and maybe (I am not sure) makeup on the lips...that is not to say these people have no problems, just that your title reflect your own vision and what you would like your images to tell...the real story may differ somehow...

A superb documentary image...this is all about documentary I like ...descriptive content, no unnecessary sophistication in compo but still a very nice compo from front to background, people being what they are, doing what they do...if I had to propose something it would be to have (if it was possible) a bit more space for the image to breathe (people are very close to the borders) but I like it as is and it does not lower its merit...thanks for sharing ...
