Comment and suggestions--welcomed. Thanks for looking--Slade.

John--beautiful image. Very well composed with great tones. If I could offer a suggestion or two.....The pole on the right (near) could be burned quite a bit to make it less distractive and more of a framing element. If at all possible I would try and get rid of the sticker as well. The back poles seem a tad too sharp. Maybe they could be toned down just a hair in contrast. They almost appear as if they were placed there. I think you would get more of a sense of that beautiful light that is coming in from the left.
Very nice capture.

Loved your profile page--you said what most of us think.
This is an increadible image! Love the perspective and the tones are just beautiful. There seems to be quite a "tonal" or "quality" difference between some of your images. I read one of your comments and you mentioned you scanned a print--are some images scanned print vs. scanned film? This image (and several others) looks to be scanned film as it is full of detail with zero artifacts.
Very nice job.

Another great image! The warm tones of the sand/light agains the blue sky really makes this stand out. I would have to disagree about moving the tree--it is creating a wonderful diagonal which works well with the diagonal created by the clouds just above it bringing the viewer into the center of the image. If anything--show more space on the right--the square format with this composition makes me feel like I have to stop looking too quickly. Everything is directing me to the right but I come to the frames edge too quickly.
Well done!

Absolutely wonderful image!! The composition, tones, light....everything! I don't think it would have been the same image without the tracks--Nice job!
-
Compositionally it is wonderful! I would love to see a bit more "snap" to the print. Get those wonderful highlights in the track to standout. Nice image.

Thanks for the comments Steve. It means a lot coming from someone as accomplished of an artist as yourself.

Thank you for the response. Actually your English is quite good and I understood everything. We arrange words a little different(than everyone--wonder who's right?) but it all made sense. Thank you for the instructions and look forward to seeing more of your work.

What can I say but VERY well done!! You have captured the feeling of bein in a dark room perfectly! I like everything about this image.

I'm not a big sunset guy but this one caught my eye. I read your "detail" section and I'm not sure I agree totally. I think the clutter at the bottom really makes this image work from all the other sunset pics. You have just the right amount of dark detail to give interest to that portion of the frame--something other than color for the viewer to look at. I think this is an extremely successful image. Keep up the good work!

Thank you everyone for your comments.
Denis - Sorry I haven't commented yet--hectic night with daughter's school project. I promise I will take a close look at your work and comment.
Keith - I agree--very simple and complicated in one package. The best thing about the 4x5 (or any large format) is that it forces you to slow down and really take a close inspection of the composition.
100 negs a month? I have been shooting with this format for about 15 years and maybe have 200 negs total! That is impressive! You must live in front of the processing sink. I pretty much shoot 1 neg per image unless I am unsure about what I need. I use to shoot several because of the possibility of scratches. I now use Readyloads which has diminished this considerably. With my busy life if I shoot 20 images a year that is being pretty productive for me. Sounds crazy and sad but true. If I get 7-10 usable images from this I feel pretty good.
Again--everyone, thank you for your comments. I always look at peoples site who make comments I just haven't been able to the last few days.

Thank you both for the quick response!
Denis--I will definitely check your work out when I get home. I vowed to never look at another's images while on this crappy monitor at work--it ruins everything.
Keith--I shoot exclusively 4x5 -- I see you also do some work with this format -- not sure about you but I can't wait until someone hands about $30,000 over as a gift to me so I can purchase a digital back for this thing! :)

This mine is known as the Star Pheonix Mine owned by the Hecla
Mining Company. It is located in a Ghost Town called Burke, Idaho --
outside of Wallace, Idaho which is about 70 miles East of Spokane,
Washington.

Wasn't sure which category to place this in.....
Taken at a local farm in Moscow, Idaho while rummaging through the
boneyard.

Thank you everyone for you comments--they really are appreciated.
Aaron--thanks again. Most people that see this think it is a mountain (sand dune) if they don't see the title first. In actuality it is just on the other side of a ditch. The main ridge you see in front is maybe 20" away from my lens with the farthest point back being 10 feet. It was just after a heavy snow and windy night.
Bill--I do have one where I shot it with a deep orange filter but it really didn't do much for the sky as there wasn't much if any blue. All it did was deepen the shadows in the snow to a point they were difficult to control and keep that sense of light. I tried burning the sky some but considering most of my images--which are very contrasty and somewhat dark--I felt this was a good change to leave things very soft.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions everyone. I will play some more with it and try a few of your suggestions. Oh...and yes, this is a river--actually more of an offshoot of the Spokane River. The actual river is pretty average in size this section happens to be just below the Post Falls Damn which wasn't running much since it was mid winter.
Thanks again.
