sladez 0 Posted April 25, 2006 This mine is known as the Star Pheonix Mine owned by the Hecla Mining Company. It is located in a Ghost Town called Burke, Idaho -- outside of Wallace, Idaho which is about 70 miles East of Spokane, Washington. Comments and suggestions welcome. Thanks - Slade Link to comment

sladez 0 Posted April 25, 2006 Thank you both for the quick response! Denis--I will definitely check your work out when I get home. I vowed to never look at another's images while on this crappy monitor at work--it ruins everything. Keith--I shoot exclusively 4x5 -- I see you also do some work with this format -- not sure about you but I can't wait until someone hands about $30,000 over as a gift to me so I can purchase a digital back for this thing! :) Link to comment
sladez 0 Posted April 26, 2006 Thank you everyone for your comments. Denis - Sorry I haven't commented yet--hectic night with daughter's school project. I promise I will take a close look at your work and comment. Keith - I agree--very simple and complicated in one package. The best thing about the 4x5 (or any large format) is that it forces you to slow down and really take a close inspection of the composition. 100 negs a month? I have been shooting with this format for about 15 years and maybe have 200 negs total! That is impressive! You must live in front of the processing sink. I pretty much shoot 1 neg per image unless I am unsure about what I need. I use to shoot several because of the possibility of scratches. I now use Readyloads which has diminished this considerably. With my busy life if I shoot 20 images a year that is being pretty productive for me. Sounds crazy and sad but true. If I get 7-10 usable images from this I feel pretty good. Again--everyone, thank you for your comments. I always look at peoples site who make comments I just haven't been able to the last few days. Link to comment
steve dimock 0 Posted April 27, 2006 I like the sharp angles. Just enough open space between the buildings. A person could look at this for hours and continue to find nice "stuff" Link to comment
sladez 0 Posted April 27, 2006 Thanks for the comments Steve. It means a lot coming from someone as accomplished of an artist as yourself. Link to comment
randall ellis 2 Posted April 29, 2006 This is a very strong image - I'd love to see the print in person! There is a lot of detail in everthing you presented and the tonal values are striking. Your very solid composition sends me a clear message. Man, this is just good stuff! - Randy Link to comment
