  1. Maybe my in-experience has misled me. Take alook at the above linked images from me which were all from a full frame camera. I am under the impression that even with a 10-22 on a 40D I wont get the same quality and effect. Say the photographer had a 5D which he used to take those images and he had a 40D with a 10-22, would the image be just as dramatic? From what I have read above the images should look exactly identicle. I have always thought the full frame camera gave a view which could never be matched by a cropped sensor camera. I hear what your saying John, but I have always thought it was the sensor.

Also, I have looked at sample images of the 10-22 and also samples of a 14mm. The 14mm appeared more dramatic and wide. Is this just an illusion? I am new to wide angle so I'm sorry if this is a dumb question.

  2. Here is a good example shot to show what I mean by wide and "Dramatic". How can I accomplish this with a 40D. Can anyone show me a sample shot done with a cropped sensor that displayes a good wide sharp image? I am getting involved in fashon shoots now and I have some close up full body images in mind I want to take. This is the main reason I want the 5D. See the link below to see the image taken from a Photo.net member.

  3. For those of you that went from a cropped frame such as the 30D to the full

frame camera like the 5D, Was it worth the money in your opinion? I have a 40D

but I cant seem to get those wide dramatic landscape shots like with the 5D and

1D. I am thinking of stepping up to the 5D but I want to see how other people

who have made this decision feel.

Also, is there a new 5D coming out anytime soon?

  4. Ha Ha! I live in southern california. I have a good comfortable temperature most of the time with no help. On cold days I have a heater that warms it up quick and on hot days I have the main garage door along with windows and access doors to open between shots fo vent out. It is only for the time being till I get some experience and can justify charging $50 for a model shoot which will pay for the local airplane hanger I have available to rent by the day for $50.

I am using an Alienbees 800, an AB 400, and a Canon 580 EX II. I have some honeycomb grids for the background light, a large soft box without grids, and various umbrellas. I think I am going to invest in a 5 foot oct-a-box with grids pretty soon. Thats it for equipment.

  5. I am setting up a small studio in my garage. I plan to shoot people. The walls

are wood framing (med-dark brown)and I was wondering if my studio lights will

pull the wall color into my image? I will be using black or white seamless

paper backgrounds but shooting color. Do I need to cover the walls? Any

suggestions on what to cover them with that is in-expensive? The 2x4 studs are

exposed but I cant afford to dry-wall it.

    Thanks

  6. I was actually not looking to go completly mobile. I was gonna have the inverter hooked up to the car and just start the car from time to time. Under these conditions it would be about a $40 investment. What about a gas powered generator? Does this provide the proper type of power?
  7. Can I use one of those power converters that you hook up to your car battery

or car ciggarett lighter and it has an A/C plug that can provide power to

houshold A/C devices for powering my Alienbees studio lights? The AB lights

have a normal A/C plug on them and I would think since those converters offer

a standard A/C power source it should work? But seeing how I have never seen

anyone else do this make me question it. What are your thoughts?

    Thanks

  8. I have 2 Alienbees 800's and a Canon 580 EX II off camera.. I am new to using

my 580 off camera so I need advice on how to fire my set up. I was using my

sync cord on one Alienbee and slave was firing the second before I introduced

the 580. Now how would you recommend I fire the set up with out going to a

pocket wizard unit? Which do I hard wire and can I get away with the slaves

firing the rest? I dont mind going wireless but everyone makes a big fuss on

the cheaper units and I dont do enough photography to justify spending so much

on Pocket wizards. Any advice wil be much appreciated. Are the cheap Ebay

wireless remotes really that bad? What about the new Alienbees remotes?

    Thanks,

    Jimmy

  9. I am looking to get those great shots of the waves crashing over the rocks. I

think it is in Laguna Beach,CA but not sure. I live in southern CA and was

wondering if someone can point me in the right direction for good landscape

locations. I am willing to go to any other beaches in the area and actually

inland to some good spots. Any help will be much appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Jimmy

  10. So what does everyone think of the ring flash? Is it as great as everyone makes

it out to be? Will I use this only when doing portrait shots? I have very

limited studio lighting experience. What is the biggest pro and biggest con of

using the ring flash? I have a Canon 40D and am looking at the Alienbees ring

    flash.

  11. So I am on a mission to mount images on acrylic. I want to mount it to the back

side of the acrylic so when you look at the image you are looking through the

acrylic. So I guess the proper way to explain this is "mounting the acrylic on

the face of the image".. So I need clear acrylic, a printed image, and some

kind of mounting adhesive that will go between the printed face of the image

and the acrylic without damaging the quality of the photo. This is not a new

process. I need to know what kind of mounting product I should use to do this

    correctly. Any suggestions???

  12. I just shot some RAW shots with my 40D for the 1st time. So when I put them on

the computer they are a CR2 file. How do I open them in Photoshop CS3 or Camera

Raw? I tried to do a basic "Open File" and "Open As" while telling it to open

in Camera Raw and it still wont open it. The error I get is "COULD NOT COMPLETE

YOUR REQUEST BECAUSE IT IS NOT THE RIGHT KIND OF DOCUMENT".... What am I doing

    wrong here?

    Thanks guys,

    Jimmy
