  1. True.. But as we discussed before, though the image will be as wide, It still seems to be missing a little something that the 5D gives it. The 5D seems to produce a better image. Maybe it's just me.
  2. I am all over the board with me style. I shoot alot of outdoor landscape and NY cityscape. I have turned towards the portrait work and stidio stuff which I think I will do alot more of in the future. So the main reason I want to step up from my 40D is the FF. So I went for a new 5D but noticed for not alot more you can find some older 1D and 1DS's. Not the Mark III of course but some mark II's and the origional's. I probably said something that is kinda gray, We dont rely in these new features like live view and auto sensor cleaning but they are nice to have.

Brent, what is the 1D MK IIN? This one is new to me.

So in the end I am drawn to the dramatic wide point of view the FF offers and I just want to be sure if I am spending $2500 I am getting the most bang for my buck.

  3. I was wondering if you guys could give me a little advice. I want to get a 5D

but I found for the price of a new one I could get a nice used 1D or 1Ds. The

problem is they are older models like mark I and mark II. I foundone that did

not even state any "mark" signature. What are the set backs of these older 1d

camera's? I want full frame so I think I need to focus on the 1Ds but are these

older versions stripped of the features we have come to rely on with the newer

    bodies?

  4. For the 99.999% who get annoyed,I can understand why you guys get annoyed over these threads. I just was not impressed with the attitute the more experienced posters responded with. I will admitt I should have done a search on the thread to see that it was already exhausted but I was in a hurry and posting from my cell phone. I just dont think it's cool that you guys take that attitude towards the inexperienced guys who post an exhausted subject or just plain dumb question. I was under the impression that these forums were for many topics including talk of upcoming products in the future. We new guys are just trying to get educated. We dont force you to open a thread that is an obvious repeat or pointless thread and leave post after post of belittling comments. Maybe take a more positive approach in how you handle the rookies. Sorry for clogging up this thread with talk which probably does not belong on it but it's the only way to reach you all.
  5. Ron Bernhard, I would like to learn which rule I walked all over here on photo.net but this thread is not the proper place. Please shoot me an email so I can gain a little more education on why this happened so I know how to present threads in the future. send4jimmy@yahoo.com

    Thanks

  6. Be carefull Manfred. I brought up the rumored 5D today without searching and I got a line of boo's and whines. The moderator (did I spell that right?) even deleted the thread. Makes me question what I paid for in my subscription to photo.net. I am curious why you are not into the current 5D? What issues are there?
  7. I am going to set up shop at my local street fair in southern california. It is

in the evening and lasts 4 hours. We are allowed a 10 x 10 foot area. I will be

displaying and selling framed images of all sizes from 4x6 to 24x36. Has anyone

ever set up for a street fair? What is an easy portable way to display alot of

framed images when you dont have walls? I have the option of setting up a

canopy but still no walls. I am puzzled on how I should do this. Any help? It

has to be easy set up and light weight.

    Thanks

  8. Hmmm. Great info, but some questions still remains unanswered. I am not depending on this photography income to pay the bills. I have a great day job for that. So I am going to consider this a "hobby." But, how do I protect my brand name? Or do I need to become a "business" if I want to have a brand name? As I mentioned before, I got my sellers permit and business license. Does this mean I have crossed the line of keeping it a hobby? I dont need my operation to have the "business" title. I am happy with it being a hobby but I want to be able to have a brand name, Sell images and services, and keep this protected so the name cant be taken.
  9. Wow.. That seems high. I am a home renter and I get my equipment covered in my renters insurance via AAA. I pay 142 a year which covers up to 30K in personal property. This includes if the camera is stolen while I am out downtown taking pictures. Pretty good now that I see the above mention prices. Home owners insurance offers the same from what I hear. What about the mal-pracice tho?
  10. I have no idea where to start! I am building a little side business with my

photography. I will be selling fine art image, Stock photo and offering photo

services for weddings and models. I have decided on a name but how do I protect

that name? I also built a website. I got myself a sellers permit and business

license. Do I need to copyright the business name? If so, Where do I do this?

Do I need to become a DBA or LLC? If so, how and where? Anything else I need to

consider? I will be making a small amount of money but I want to keep it clean.

I only sell one or two images a month which does not get me more than a couple

hundred bucks. That being said I cant afford to spend cash on a lawyer at this

stage. I live in california if that is needed to point me in the right

    direction.

  11. I am just getting started on Alamy and am about to upload images. This may be a

very dumb question for a photographer with a couple years of experience. It

says the minimum file size must be 48MB un-compressed. So a JPEG image freash

out of the camera is about 5MB if I'm not mistaken. How di I get a 5MB image

straight out of a Canon 20D or 40D into the proper size for uploading on Stock

websites? Do I need a higher megapixel camera to get images acceptable for

    selling on Alamy?

  12. Well, I have been told that I think very different than most. I do not depend on other peoples experiences too often when making a decision. Especially when it comes to business. The way I see things is like this. And I hope I dont stay away. Any one person can be what ever it is he or she wishes to be. The large company owner, the doctor with the big house on the beach in Hawaii, or a bum sleeping on the street. All those people are as successful or unsuccessful as they are usually due to the decisions they made. There are people who are willing to put in all the time and hard work to be rich and those who are happy working at a fast food joint just getting by. We all decide our success in a way. Granted some get it handed to them but the guy who does not still has the chance to be as successful. I think I am spelling successful wrong! Anyway, So I just want to see if there are many people out there making money with a camera. I dont need to know how hard it is, How long it took, and all the other but's that went along with that dollar earned. Even if all answered no to making money with photography, I still believe if I put my mind and time to it, I can make it work. Most people can do so much more with their career than they think they can. I hope I made some sense here.
  13. So I am going to ask a question that has been asked in a different way probably

20 times on this site, but I would like to see a simple list of responses

showing the fact with no negative disclaimers to shoot the upcoming

photographers dreams down the drain. I hear 9 out of 10 pro photographers say

you will have a very hard time making money as a photographer. So I am going to

do something simular to a post I just read over the weekend to see some

statistics. I am not the IRS and dont need to know how much you make. Just an

answer for the below listed questions.

    1. Are you doing business with photography?

    2. What catagory? (Weddings, Stock, Fine Art, Street Fairs, Ect.)

    3. Are you making a profit?

    4. Is it your main means of income?

Thanks people, I hear alot of people say you'll never make money being a

photographer and you will almost never make a living off it.
