1.
Manu,
I know this thread is very old but I just had this same problem with a different model Slik tripod with a pan/tilt head. I was trying to remove as the OP first described and then I reassembled and tried removing it again with your above stated method and it worked great! Thank you!.

 2.
I am in a little bind and I think you all would be the people to ask. I do not print much but I am trying to print some of my fall images today via an outside lab. I never paid attention to printer profiles, color space in photoshop, etc. Today I set up my photoshop CS3 to adobe 1998 in the color settings. I also set my monitor calibration via the in computer software since I cant afford a hardware sync tool right now. I run a new 27" Imac. So with my monitor somewhat calibrated, my photoshop color settings set to adobe rgb 1998, and the correct printer profiles installed I am trying to soft proof an image for print. I am hitting a big problem when I click on my Gamma warning. It shows most of my yellows and oranges out of range. I am afraid to send to print with any gamma warning showing. If I go tweak my curves then adjust specific colors that are out of range (hue, brightness, saturation) I am able to get the warning to go away to an extent but my image looks horrible. I mean drastically desaturated. I am not making my adjustments in my printer profile space. I am making them in editing space. Am I doing something wrong? Is there something I have set up incorrectly in my color spaces? The printer to be used is going to be an Epson 7880.

Thanks

 3.
Wow.. Thanks for all the awesome info! So to sum it up, I should get some ND filters in a range of stops, A polarizer (which I already have), a couple ND Grad filters and maybe an enhancer filter. Now I am told to use the Cokin style filters as opposed to screw on when it comes to the ND Grad. But yet I see some don't like the Cokin filters. So what is the best brand and style ND Grad filters to get? I shoot digital Canon 5D with a full frame sensor and my common lens are 17-40mm and the 70-200mm 2.8 which both are 77mm rings. I have never seen the Cokin or Lee filter systems but I notice online the filters are a resin or plastic. Will this distort the quality of my image since it is not a high quality glass? Also, the few enhancer filters (Didymium filters) I was able to find were like $250 - $300. Are they really worth the money?

 4.
I have searched and did not seem to find much info on what pro landscape photographers use for filters. I am shooting digital and I know some filters can be done in post but as for those that are better on camera I would like to know which one I should invest in? I will be shooting landscape and foliage.

Also, Do you think the Cokin system or the round screw on type is a better choice?

 5.
Thanks Alan.. I like that you took the time to explain. But the pink filter I am finding in articles is a pretty noticeable pink. Not like a UV filter with a very slight shade of pink. I am not sure if this is correct but it may also be considered the "Enhancer" filter or didymium filter. Is this the same pink filter your thinking of Alan?

 6.
I have always liked Peter Lik's landscape images. I understand there is some filter use and processing done to his images which I have heard he uses a pink filter on camera. He shoots digital. So as a beginner to landscape photography I was wondering if someone could explain exactly what filter number the pink filter is and what it's purpose and results are. While we are on the subject if you could offer any other filter options I would appreciate it. I shoot landscape with a Canon 5D. I know about the ND, Grad, and Pol filters. I am just interested in any color filters that may improve my images.

Thanks

 7.
So here we are approaching another fall foliage season. I know last year alot of you kept us posted on what and where you were shooting both before and during your New England travels. So I wanted to start a thread for this year so we can all keep in touch and share ideas and stories. Please keep us posted of where and when you are going. Any findings during the season will help along with pictures. I will be returning to NE again when the color gets better. Last year I went for my first year. I am a southern california photographer. I ended up spending 11 days out there and drove 7600 miles. I loved it. I flew into and out of Boston. This year I will not be booking till just before I leave to assure I book when the color is good. So who is going? I will be going solo this year so it will be nice to meet up with anyone else looking to shoot for a day or so.

 8.
When you go down hwy 78 at the beginning of the dunes there is a road on the right called gecko rd. there is a ranger station on the corner. Also, about a mile down the road on the right is a road called osborn look out. It goes to the top of a big hill and its paved. It over looks the whole dune landscape.

 9.
Thanks all.. Made it down there but time was limited. See my gallery in a min. I will be going back down and getting my shots in correct light. Also, I will be planning a trip to the dunes as well.

 10.
Hi All,
I am in the Los Angeles area and have a few days off with this long weekend. I am looking for ideas on great places to shoot within a 4 hour drive or closer. I shoot everything. My gear is a canon 5D as well as getting started with a 4x5 large formatt. I looked all over Google earth and there are alot of great places. I would also like your input on great day trip locations in the so cal area. No specific type of shooting, it can be people, outdoors, architecture, etc. Also, include special gear that you might reccommend, do's & dont's, and any dangers.
Thanks,
11.
Good Morning everyone,
I am only about 1-1/2 hours from the north tip of the Salton Sea in southern California. I shoot digital Canon 5D and also getting started with 4x5 Large Formatt. I want to take a day trip to the salton sea tomorrow and was wondering if any of you who have shot here can give me some advise? The "Do's & Dont's".. Are there any dangers such as wildlife, people, angry residents who hate photographers, ect.. Is there a part of the coast that is more common for photographers? Tips on special gear to bring alond due to specic conditions I may encounter? I appreciate all your help.

Thanks,
Jimmy

 12.
I am looking to hear who you all use to process your large format film here in Southern California? I know Freestyle photo in Hollywood does a great job but it is a drive for me. I can always send them but I like the idea of a lab that I can walk into and speak to them face to face. Any suggestions? I live about 30 minutes east of downtown Los Angeles in the city of La Verne.

 13.
I have searched the forums and found no threads like this one in which I hope to find an answer to my question as well as help other future beginner LF people. I want to get involved in large format cameras starting with a 4x5. Can you all offer a list of good cameras for the first time buyer? I am looking for both new and used since I am not sure which I want to go with yet. My budget is $1000 OR LESS. If I can get a camera with everything else I need to get me started for $200 I would love to do that. Please include the manufacturer as well as model of the camera suggested. If you can point me in the right direction to find that particular camera it would be even better. I am not looking for anything too fancy. As long as it has what it takes to take a nice image. I will be shooting landscape and I will be looking for a field camera. Size and weight are not a huge worry of mine. Thanks everyone, Jimmy.
