    Haying Season

          4
Thanks for the suggestions. My father wanted this photo right then...I agree it would have been better as a morning shot as the sun would light the equipment and and been much better. I will get a chance to photograph this operation again in about month. Thanks, JP

I don't know where this goes exactly.(Cars & Vehicles or Landscape)

Just sharing a photo of our haying operation here in SE Idaho. This is

the first step in getting the hay put up for winter feed. Enjoy, JP

    Brian,

Nice clouds and color. A couple of things I have learned on this site - First the horizon needs to be straightened. I have had a struggle getting my the horizons flat. Sometimes they aren't flat as some people believe they should be. The next thing is to use a circular polarizer. It will help rev up the blues in the sky and also give the clouds more contrast. If you haven't ever used one the key is to have your back to the sun and rotate the outer ring until you get a deep blue in the sky. As a rule of thumb, polarizers work great shooting opposite of the sun. Hope this helps. JP

    Stephen,

Nice use of fire. It looks like you used the flash on your camera to help with the exposure. One suggestion is to set the custom flash setting on the 30D to second curtain sync. This will give that streak effect that you have but will make the car streak like it is going forward, (as I know it is going very fast in the forward direction) By doing this the flash will go off just as the shutter is closing to help with the exposure and also let the car create the streak. By the way did Ashley win? :-) JP

    Paul,

Nice lighting for the capture. Nice concept however, I don't like the way the guitar is tucked so tightly under the chin. It almost looks to me as though her head is on a stick (guitar). I would like to try with the guitar almost flat coming straight towards the camera and down just a little from her chin to give the lines of the strings leading to the pretty model. Just my ideas, for what it's worth. P.S. I looked at your gallery, you have some nice photos. JP

    Days Gone By

Just sharing a photo from last weekends travels. I sure wish I could

fuel the diesel pickup at this location. Oh well, I fueled much

further down the road for the low price of $2.90 a gallon. Enjoy, JP

    Hello Sheila,

Interesting photo however looks like you might want to retry using a tripod. There is just enough blur from the shake that it is hard to get good detail. When you use the tripod then you can use a higher f stop to get real crisp images. The color and exposure look good to me, just some suggestions to try next time. Keep shooting as we all need the practice. ;-) JP

    Joseph,

Nice shot. I hate spiders so this really creeps me out. Was it dead or alive? I want to try a little macro work when I get the right equipment and some time. It looks like fun. Thanks for sharing, JP

P.S. Looked at your portfolio, you have some nice photos.

  1. Sam, I did several photos trying to get every setup right. After a little patients from the ladies this came out of the camera. Thanks for the nice comments, as like you I do also love to hear from the good as well as the people who give 3/3s on the forum. JP
  2. Just sharing a photo I did for our church group. The setup involved

one light as to create the effect that there was a higher power

deceding as these ladies were reading their scriptures. If you have

any constructive critiques I would appreciate them. Thanks for

    viewing, JP
