  1. This image is fantastic. Wonderful composition.
  2. Beautiful image. The B&W conversion is fabulous too. My only suggestion is that you might crop a bitter off the right as it would direct the eye into the image. Regardless, the image is very nice.

    Thanks for your feedback!
  4. Another beautiful image.
  5. Beautiful image. The dark sky on the left directs the viewers eye to the mountain and the sun. Love the foreground interest as well. Nicely done.

    Sunrise in B&W

    Appreciate your feedback.
  7. Really nice image. Making me realize I need to pull that lens out of the bag on occasion. Really lovely.

    Full Moon Rising

I think it's a good image. The composition is nice. The only struggle with these types of images is that it's impossible to expose for the foreground and hold detail in the moon. You either have to double expose or take a separate frame for the moon and blend it in. Anyway, I like the image.

    Pink Sunset

Thanks, Mike. Appreciate the feedback. The halo on the hill is annoying. I hadn't realized it when I fist uploaded the image.

    Nearly Full

Thanks to all for the comments. I did take a separate image of the moon to retain detail, but I replaced it as it appeared in the original image (i.e., in the same location). I did, however, use a longer focal length for the moon image, which explains why it is exaggerated. I understand why the foreground and pier to the left over complicates the image. I like the foreground elements, but may try to simplify the image. I will repost after I re-work the image. Thank you again to all who provided feedback. The comments helped me see the image difderently.

    Still

Thank you both for the helpful feedback. I was thinking about a square crop for this image, but hadn't thought about extending the foreground.

  13. This is a very intriguing thread. I too remember when ratings were not annonymous. I wasn't aware there was an issue with revenge ratings, but I could see that happening. I do recall that when the ratings were not annonymous that you were much more likely to get an explanation for a low rating. That, in my opinion, was much more helpful than the current system in which ratings can seem entirely random. I do recall though that overall ratings seemed to be higher then (I remember more ratings in the 5-6 range; though my images may have been better back then!!) I agree with some of the comments above about the small group of raters doling out 3s. I also appreciate hearing how others rate images, and admit my views are not far off from David's view. Honestly, I find the whole rating system to be frustrating, but feel compelled to request ratings to increase the visibility of my work. As others have said, the critiques offered are far more valuable. Unfortunately, many images recieve little to no feedback and sometimes comments are not that helpful. I try to offer feedback on images that need additional work, but this is time consuming and I don't have a ton of free time. I also struggle with how to leave feedback on many of the images in the critique forum as some are simply snapshots and I don't have much to contribute; I also worry anout being too critical as i would never want to discourage anyone from continuing with photography. Anyhow, I'm glad someone started this thread and I enjoy reading the thoughtful comments about the rating system. I too will continue to seek and give ratings, but know the system is flawed.

    Wonderful shot. Really well done.
  15. Really lovely image. I cannot think of a single thing I would do differently.

I agree with the other comments. The only thing I might change is the location of the light house. It is very central in the image. Beat regards.

    Pink Sunset

I enhanced the color in the sky, but may have over done it. I would appreciate any feedback on that or any other components if the shot. As always, your comments and feedback are most appreciated.

Interesting image. It might be better if you could pull a bit more detail out of the land elements, as they have gone completely black. I think this might help to anchor the image. Also, it appears that you have big dust spot in the middle of the cloud. This is easily correctiable using content aware fill in PS.

Went out to take sunset photos last night, and was met with a cloudless sky. There was some color near the horizon after the sun was mostly down, which I was able to capture. Any comments/critiques would be most appreciated.
