Nice Shot Rick, this scene is the favorite of Photographers and painters alike. You've done a great job with the B&W/Sepia, this is oftentimes not an easy scene to photograph, yet, you've done it superbly, Well Done ! 7/7

    Bridge at Sunset

Hi Bruce, greetings from Corvallis. Very nice capture! I'll be glad when all of the work is done on the bridge. There's another, little known viwpoint for getting great shots of this bridge from a dead end street up above the east end of the bayfront. High above wires and other obstructions. See attached:

  1. I've been by here twice in the last year, only to have haze or bad weather. Nice shot Drew!

Bixby Creek Arch Bridge is a reinforced concrete open-spandrel arch bridge in California, completed in 1932. It is 714 feet long, and has a main span of 320 feet. It is located in Monterey County a few miles south of Carmel-by-the-Sea on the Pacific Coast Highway.

Bixby Bridge is historically important because it opened up the Big Sur region to the south to automobile travel, connecting this area to the outside world. Previously, travelers had to negotiate a rough wagon road over precipitous ridges and valleys, and a 30 mile journey from Monterey to the Big Sur River valley could take three days round trip.

The bridge was retrofitted in 1997-1998 as part of the Caltrans Phase II seismic retrofit program. It is one of the most photographed bridges in the world, and appears in many car commercials.

I like this overall, but I think the lamp in the background looks out of place. If it were tipped down so the bulb wasn't visible, it would have been less of a distraction from your subject.

    The End

Different is good! This photo evokes a lot of emotion, it's unlike anything I've seen on Pnet in a long time. It looks midevil, almost like a castle corridor. I like it. Never be afraid to post something different, I think it's wonderful. 7/7
  2. Hi Sondra, looks like you have another winner here. Arcata has many scenic areas, you found a great one ! I was at Hearst Castle the other day, thought of you and your stunning photo of the Pool room. Keep up the great work.

This has a real ethereal feel to it. Nice PAL Test Pattern as well. The angles and the seemingly floating face give this a lot of appeal as do the patterns on the face.

Probably the best image yet that I;ve seen of Crater Lake, awesome capture Marc. When you got he extra distance, your images stand out so much more. Well done.

    Hummingbird Moth

Greetings from Oregon, nicely done. Something you might try (if you haven't already) is to use a flash when taking images like this. I have used a strobe for taking pictures of Hummingbirds, makes them blur less. I have to admit I've not seen one of these moths before, your photo is fasinating.
  3. Believe what you'd like, I also drove down to the beach and stood on the parking lot LOOKING UP and the top of the beam was STILL horizontal to the top of the lighthouse. I don't care what was done, or how it was taken, all I'm saying is it doesn't resemble the beam as I've ever seen it. I still think it's an outstending photo. That was never at question here.
  4. Hi Tammy,

Sometimes when we have a high contrast shot such as yours the reciprocity (difference between the extremes) is just too great. if you try to make the ground lighter the sky is washed out or vice versa. So Hoya makes a split filter that half of it is a Neutral Density ND4 the other half clear. You can use it on half the scene to reduce the compensation by 2 stops and get everything to balance. It might not work too well in this particular image because of the barn, but I have used them with good effect.
