  1. Hi everyone, I posted a question not long ago about macro lenses and it was

very helpful to learn new things spesially the term working distance. That got

me thinking though. As far as I understood, the longer the focal lens the more

working distance you get. That?s clear. But does a 100mm gives you more ratio

    (e.g. 1:1 v.s. 1.3x ) that the 60mm? I mean, if you focus at the minimum

distance available, do you get more ratio? I?m guessing yes, right?

  2. Hi everyone, I?m dying to buy a macro lens! I study biology and I?m very

interested in taking pictures of plants and insects. I?ve been looking at the

Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM and the Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM. The

60mm gives me a 1:1 ratio on my 350D but the 100mm is only US$100 more

expensive and it?ll give me some more! Any comments on any of these lenses is

welcomed, I have read many reviews but I want to hear something from more

    people.

    gracias!

  3. Hello everybody! I have a 350D with the not so good 18-55mm lens. I'm looking

for an everyday shooting and I have found this two:

    EF-S 17-85/4-5.6 IS USM

    28-135/3.5-5.6 IS USM

the EF-S 17-85/4-5.6 IS USM has IS 2nd generation (3 stops of IS) and the 28-

135/3.5-5.6 IS USM has 1rst generation (2 stops) I shoot mainly handhold so

    this can be an issue.

My camera has the 1.6x crop factor, so it really means 27.2-136mm V.s 44.8-216mm

Do you think I'll miss the wideangle very much with the 28-135/3.5-5.6 IS USM?

I own a peleng 8mm as well that could do the job.

They are more or less the same price (+/- $500).

    Any comments.

    thanks

    Simon =)

  4. Hi, first of all, Alex Im sorry. I had just used the $%&$! converter for the first time and I was stressed. Sorry for talking you like that.

Mike and Alistair, I tried what you said, focusing something very close, but still nothing. It does look like a magnifying glass in a thick filter mount, I think. Ill attached a pic for you to see it.

Keith, you are right, hard work and creativity and practice are more important than any lens.

I think Ill just put this thing away and shoot with the lenses I have. Maybe Ill use it as a magnifying glass.

well so its life, I learned the lesson, no screw on things.

    cheers

    Simon

  5. Hi you all, I bought a 2X converter, wich you screw onto your lens. I thought

I was gonna get a good result, I know about the lost of quality, but Im

really disapointed =( , its crap, it doesnt give the 2X factor they promise

and I cant focus. I tried it on a 18-55mm and on a 90-300mm, with not so

worst result on the first one.

Does anyone knows some tips or anything to make it a bit better? I tried

screwing it directly to the lens and with a UV filter, but...

    Anyone? Im sad

    Simon

  6. Hi Rainer! Thanks again for all the help. The links to the images taken with both lenses were great, and yes, Im defenitively looking for the efect that the Peleng causes. Thanks again, now Im gonna try to find a good/cheap one on ebay...

    best wishes

    Simon

  7. Hi Rainer! oops sorry =) I was talking about the distortion that fisheye lenses typically make. What is the diference with a circular image? would that be a 360 degrees images? or 180? Ill look for images on the web taken with both lenses thanks again

    Simon

  8. Hello, Im looking for a fisheye lens or a fisheye converter. There

are a couple on ebay and I was wondering wich one would fit my

necessities better. First option is the Peleng 3,5/8mm (200),

second is the ZENITAR EF 2,8.16mm (130), and a third one is a Hama

    or other make 0.4x converter (40). I have an EOS 350D with a 1.6x

crop factor. I want the round fisheye efect, and I dont the best

way to get it. Would I get it with the Zenitar 16mm (actually 25.6mm

in my camera)? Or is it better the Peleng 8mm (12.8mm)? Although the

price increases a lot. What about a Soligor 0.15x converter? Is

there too much of lose of quality? Would I get vignetting? Those are

normaly for 52mm filters mine has a 58mm.

    Im really lost, any enlighten?

    thanks

    Simon

  9. Hi you all! thanks for responding! To those who suggested, taking several pictures with shorter exposure times and then putting them back together, How? Photoshop I guess, but...?

And no I havent use or heared about Neat Photo or Noise Ninja, what era they?

    thanks :)

  10. Good day! Ive been experimenting with bulb shooting lately, but

theres something thats bothering me and its the noise I get. Im

shooting with an EOS 350D set up with ISO 100. Is there any way to

get less noise, than the one Im getting. The example below was

taken with the following: Tv 2157 sec and Av 5.6, ISO speed 100.

    Any suggestion are wellcome, thanks

    Simon

  11. Ok, thanks to all of you!

Mark U: Ill try your technique, sounds easy and cheap!

Matt Miller: Mirror Lock Up? Why does that helps me? I dont really understand what it is.

Alistair Windsor: do you mean freehands earpieces? thats a very good tip :)

    thanks again

    Simon

  12. Im wondering if any of you guys knows if theres a way of shooting

in B exposition without having to have the shooting button pressed

all the time. Theres no way I can get a sharp picture because of

the trepidation. May be with a remote control? I would prefer if

theres a way without having to buy anything else, but Im all ears

    I have an EOS 350D.

    thanks

    Simon

  13. Hi you all! thanks for all the answres! Well I was looking on ebay for the lenses you recommend , and the Peleng 8mm is 200 , the zenitar 16mm is around 130. But would a 16mm really have a fish eye with a 1.6 crop factor? Will I get the espherical effect Im looking for? Or is the 8mm better?

    thanks again!

    chao

    Simon

  14. Hi you all, I bought a EOS 350D recently and I want to expirience a

bit with fish eye photos. But a Canon one cost around 450! And its

not like Im going to use it every day! What if I buy a converter?

Will I lose to much quality? thanks for the answers!

    Simon

  15. Hi you all! thank you so much for taking some minutes to answer my question, altough there was no question in specific. Your advices on the 350D are great , I think I?ll buy it in the next month or so, just need to safe a bit more. I?ll let you guys know when I get the camera,

    many many thanks again!

  16. Hi you all , I?m not a profetional photographer, but i enjoy taking

pictures all day long. I now have a Olympus C3030 Zoom, 3.3 MP,

which takes awsome pictures! But I have always dreamed of the EOS

Rebel 350D, but I don?t know if it is too much for me. Can someone

give me an advice? I pretend to take pictures for me and family but

if there is a good one i might try on an exposition.

    tanhk a lot
