  1. I was able to get the Nikon Capture working, but the image you view is very small I was hoping to be able to see detail in the image There is a maximize box in the top right corner but it is greyed out. Does the later version of Nikon Capture allow you to see a larger image?

    Thanks, Ernie

  2. Can someone please tell me how to tether my D70 to laptop.

I have Nikon Capture 4 ver 4.1.2, Photoshop CS., and PSE 3

I want to be able to take pictures and view them as they are taken on

    laptop.

Thank you in advance for your help.

    Ernie

  3. Thanks... as always you guys are super and you are correct I should have caught that one in my manual. I was looking at a beginners guide on D70 and misunderstood what it was saying on this subject.

  4. Should I be setting the aperture setting on my 50mm 1:1.8 lens to

match the camera aperture setting or do I just leave it locked on 22.

This is all new to me

    Thank you for your help

  5. Wow that is some fantastic feedback... thanks a lot. The picture below is at the same church I was using my D70 with 1 SB800 this wa my first try at doing portrait... let me know what you think. I did about 100 shots of children that night and they all pretty much looked like this... I think this shot was with kit lens f8 setting

The flash looks a little hot to me

  6. Rick & BW

    I have a few questions

    1. Will the set of SB800's do as good as job as the strobes?

    2. How many pictures can I get on a set of batteries on the SB800 lights

    3. Is there a need to use light meter if I go with SB800's

    4. I presently have (1) SB800 with stand and umbrella... would the SB600 be adequate to partner up with my SB800 or should I go the extra 100 bucks for the SB800?

Thanks in advance for your help

The strobes with umbrellas and stand will rent for $45.00 per day with light meter. I think I can rent 1 SB800 with stand and umbrella for about half the cost of strobes

    Thanks, Ernie

  7. I have a D70 and have been ask to take about 200 portraits at the

lady's Christmas Banquet at our church one week from today.

I have a SB800 but after reading some of the forums posted here I

felt it might not do the job by itself... I have reserved A couple

rental Dynalight 1,000 strobes for this occasion.

The portrait setting will be inside a large room the lighting will be

dim and pictures will be taken with subjects in a red sleigh and it

will have some small white lights on sleigh and also some trees

around sleigh that will have several small white lights. I am a

newbie and have never used strobe lights I plan on going a few hours

early but due to the strobes being rented... my time is limited to

about half day practice with strobes. So here are some questions I

have I appreciate your help in giving me a jump start.

    what do you recommend?

    ISO

    Fstop

    Shutter

    WB

    Flash Sync

I will either be using my kit lens 18-70 or 50mm 1:1.8. I plan on

hooking up a TV to camera to help with setup and monitor each shot.

If you have any suggestions or tips on anything else you can think of

I need to do I appreciate it I am concerned about the small lights

what are your thoughts to capture these properly.

Thank you for your help in advance

  8. I have the camera in Manuel Mode also custom settin in #21 is set to 1/60.

The shutter settings seem to be working ok in P&A modew but will not go above 1/30 in S&M in M mode it reads bulb if you try to go above 1/30.

I was hoping there is a setting to turn off the bulb feature?

    Ernie

  9. I have a D70 with SB800 flash and and when I set the fstop to F11 and

set the shutter speed to 1/60 it says bulb... why can't I set the

shutter speed? I have been reading but all I can come up with is that

bulb is long exposure but cannot find how to set camera so I can set

shutter speed. I'm sure this is basic and something I am overlooking

but I am a newbie and need yur advise. Thank you for your response in

    advance.

  10. I am a newbie what does bulb mean? also please expalin why to use rear curtain. Thanks in advance for your help

  11. I wanted to say thanks to everyone for all the help. I was able to take about 100 pictures at our church fall festival this past Monday night and was abel to print all the pictures without post processing and hand them out before they left. I know I have a long way to go and have attached one of the pictues for your comments...

    Thanks, Ernie<div>00E3T5-26321584.jpg.6081422d8473fcb8a623b195c47040ec.jpg</div>

  12. Thanks to all that gave me the great tip to purchase the 50mm 1:1.8. I picked up one today and will be doing some experimenting with it tonight. What is normally the sharpest setting for this lens?

    Thanks Ernie

  13. I have a D70 (18-70 & 70-300 lens)with SB800 flash also a Stroboframe

Quickflip. I am a newbie to photograpy (purchased above equipment 6

months ago) also this is my first time on this forum. I have been

learning to use my new camera the past few months, but recently have

been trying to learn how to use flash. I have some questions

concerning set up 1. Is it best to use ISO 400 inside and 200 outside

when using flash? 2. I have the Strobflash quickflip... would I be

better off to trade for strobflash that rotates camera instead of

flash? 3. What setting should I use in WB I have been leaving it on

Auto 4. When do I use TTLBL vs TTL mode? 5. I have been having better

luck using the Aperture-Priority Mode with flash due to when I use

the Manuel mode with the same shutter setting my pictures turn out

too dark?? 6. Can you recommend what I should set camera exposure as

a norm seems like pics are a little underexposed 6. Here are the

present settings I am using please let me know if something looks

wrong -- Matrix Metering, Aperture-Priority Mode, WB set to Auto,

Camera syc mode set to front curtain, ISO 400 (inside), flash in TTL

Mode, flash head tilted up 45% with diffusion dome attached and set

    to -2/3 EV.

Thank you for your help, Ernie
