Live view with the 10x enlargement is a boon for macro. It provides much better focus than is possible on viewfinder. The only reason I have not upgraded to an E-510 is the fixed screen. E-330 and E-3 both have articulated screen for high and low level pics, its a must. Filming those mushrooms from underneath is simple.

Its amazing how often old Nimh batteries cause problems. I use an oldish set in my FL-36 without problems. My Fuji S9600 refuses to work with the same set. I had to buy a new set. My E-330 with BLM-1 uses so much power on live view I am glad it doesn't use AA size like S9600.

The new 14-42 kit lens is excellent. Better than the 14-45 and almost up to the 14-54. If you don't need the splashproofing amd want a lens half the size and weight I recommend it. It is also very low price.

Sounds like the software needs updating. RAW files are camera specific even if you have used the software for another Olympus camera you may need to update. Olympus Master which came with the camera should open any Olympus files.

I'm sure the auto pop up can be turned off. I never saw the logic of auto pop up on any SLR camera.

You could use your exisitng glass with an OM-4/3 adapter and get shallow depth of field. The crop factor or fov is 2 compared with 35mm.

I guess we used to have B/w and colour in separate bodies or slide and negative. Ah well.

I updated my E-300 several times. the only way it usually happens is for the battery to be low or the computer to fail in mid transfer. I updated my E-330 too without problems. I have heard good reports about Olympus.

Menu-Drive-set drive not timer. I use a cheap Chinese remote for tripod shots. It will work from the side so no need to use a cable.

Smaller and lighter definitely applies to the 14-42 and the new 40-150 f4-5.6. they are very small and very light. The optical quality is as good as anything else in their range. coincidentally they are also very cheap. They are not Pro spec lenses but for a pair of lenses to put in your pocket nothing else comes close.

Following the link I deduce that the lower button is for AF lock. The writer says he had to bring a wire out to lock the focus at infinity. There is a wire in the photo.

Sounds like long exposure noise to me. Turn on noise reduction.

Move the subject away from the background.

I have found the 14-42 to be a very practical lens. Small, light and sharp. The new f4 40-150 is also in the same class. I carry the lenses in the pocket of my jacket and a block of filters on the other. Use a small IR remote for tripod work and the only thing you have to carry is the tripod. (Battery and card of course).

I just realised this may not be available in the US my google doesn't find any US sites.

I am using an LG 22" LCD monitor. I just bought this in UK for ?184 which probably means $200+ in US. I am delighted. Searhc for LG 225 or LG226. I changed from a Sony Trinitron 20" CRT, I should have changed before. The widescreen format is ideal for Lightroom or PS.

Photoshop Elements 5 or 6 do a good job with simple panoramas. I have Stitcher but no longer use it for simple panoramas. Just take care all exposures are the same and there should be no problem.

At todays prices you can get a good or even new E-330 for this sort of money. E-10 is a great camera but in the electronic age newer is usually better.

On this topic what are the feelings about using UV filters as lens protectors. I used to do this all the time. I have stopped recently but I was always worried about flare in the lens. Just my bit about lens hoods. The Oly lenses all have a matching lens hood which can be reversed on the lens for carrying in a pocket so there is no excuse to not use one.

Download Quickgamma. Its free and works quite well.

Your camera won't support 4gb cards. E-10 uses FAT16.

I have upgraded the firmware in my E-300 twice and E-330 once. Just make sure the camera battery is fully charged and ther should be no problems.I think it is likely E-510 firmwae will be updated for a while it is their latest model. If your camera is up to date the Software will tell you once you have linked to Olympus.

I can't speak for Nikon but I have used OM manual lenses on E-330.I would recommend E-330 for this the Live view is fantastic for focusing manually, especially close up or for those long tripod shots.
Intrigued by Olympus E-510 for backpacking/trekking. Need comments.
