  1. Thanks for that Richard, I did actually know all that when I decided to save money and buy an A350 rather than a A700. I guess the A700 is due for upgrade so I may be tempted when the Live view version arrives. In the meantime I can get some more a-mount lenses and enjoy my A350. I am also offering a different perspective as an A350 user in this thread.
  2. Jan

The other true SLR's with Live view which is what you need are A300 and A350. That is if you want to stay with Sony Alpha. A100 and A200 do not have live view. You are missing a great tool in image making IMHO.

  3. I have an A350 which I am finding a great camera. Look at images at imaging-resource to compare A700 to A350. I had an Olympus E330 so became a convert to Live view. The tiltable live view system on A350 is pretty good. Not quite up to the E330 but for low angle shots or tripod framing its just as good. The image quality is far better than E330 and IMHO the images at imaging resource show little difference between A700 and A350. All the technical points in the post are valid but the camera is much better than this thread suggests.
  4. My local camera shop tell me that Flim SLR flashes wont work with DSLR cameras.

I understand that the TTL systems work in a different way but if the camera TTL

talks to the flash why does it matter? I could have bought a Minolta fit

Vivitar flash but the guy was adamant it wouldn't work so he was obviously

    helping out. But why?

  5. >>> You are not increasing the dynamic range of the camera by using one raw file.

That needs to be repeated again and again...

But you are making more use of the range that is there. It allows some shadow and highlight recovery which is very difficult any other way. I dislike the effects created in Photomatix and other software so I do it with layers in PS which give more control.

  6. Great pics! It demonstrates the fact that being close to the subject is the best Telephoto. Pro wildlife photgraphers spend days trying to photo one subject. I dont recollect many using a 1000mm lens. trying to shoot wildlife is very time consuming and frustrating.<div>00OYzA-41940484.thumb.jpg.b835c678c095978c61582606a27af7ab.jpg</div>
  7. The Olympus E-330 brought out just the same reactions. Every critic panned Live view. Virtually every new DSLR now has it including the revered EOS 1Ds Mk3. The A-350 while being a prosumer kit is the only camera apart from Olympus E3 that will tempt me. I already have a plan to get a Sony kit. Does that answer the "is there a need?" qustion.
  8. I am about to ditch my Oly system for a new Pentax system. I am tired of the lens prices and limitations in the E-system. Oly kept me in line with new innovations, Dust removal, Live view, IS etc unfortunately I now find the limitation at the wide angle end is forcing me to change. Question is do I buy the now great value K10 or wait a while for the K20?
  9. Looks about as badly designed as the HLD-3. I got rid of mine after about 2 months. On E-300 it gives a remote cable socket, which I discovered is better replaced with IR remote. They work from the side of the camera so you can easily operate the shutter without being in the frame. I now use E-330 which has no battery grip I am glad to say. Sorry to be a wet blanket but I thought the HLD-3 was the worst piece of Oly equipment I ever bought.
  10. Glen is not correct in saying there is no crop factor. The crop factor is usually considered with reference to 35mm film FOV. All lenses on 4/3 have 2x crop factor compared with 35mm film. Sorry to be pedantic. I think the whole crop factor thing is getting out of control. There are so many different sensor sizes now we need some more convenient way of comparing. I am becoming more convinced that my E-330 needs to make way for an E-3.
