Wonderful photo. Gave me the feeling of a young woman trapped in an old house, looking at the outside world through a cracked window.

    Doble Alambrada

Most people would have done this image the other way around; the tree in focus and the barbed wire out of focus in the foreground (which suggestion to be honoust also popped up in my mind seeing this), but the way you did it, definitely makes it an original capture. It gives it a kind of a spooky feeling...

    Dilemma

Wonderful capture Amal! You can actually feel the dilemma she's facing; slightly inclining to the right, but also looking at the left road as if she's really not too sure about where to go...

    Clothes-line

My very first thought seeing this image was that someone must have had a lot of time (fun???) putting all these clothespins on the drying line. Well seen and a great capture, Amal. You've made it an intruiging shot. Ilse

Wow! This is just stunning! The happy, content look on the boys face who seems to be completely at ease; you captured it beautifully.

I'm not too sure about the dark bits in the corner (as some already pointed out before). They tend to drag my attention away from the boys face/eyes. As for them grounding the image and indicating the edges, I think that when the white edges just fade into the frame without the dark spots, it just adds to the mystery of this photo.

    Grow

I've seen a few other postings here on PN trying to capture a duck's head facing down, but this one jumps out. I guess it has something to do with the b&w, the light behind the little duckling and the clear intention of the opened beak. I still find it a bit of a strange view, a head without a body, but this one is growing on me.

    Surrounded - IR

Seeing a hint of water in the far back, but none in the foreground, the boat looks a bit lost to me. Makes me wonder why the boat is here and how it got here...

I feel like there is a story that could be told here, not only because of the position of the boat, but also becuase of the beautiful rendering of this scene.

A really wonderful image. It has something dreamlike about it.

Edit: Looking back at this photo, I miss a bit of sharpness. Having seen the description of the technique you used, it's probably because of the blur layer added at the end? I wonder what the effect would be with a little less blur...

  1. I'll second what Kim S said. Whenever I'm in a city, I tend not to see any photo opportunities (not really that city kind of person) and I really admire those who actually see them and manage to make something beautiful out of it, like this photo. You can just keep looking at it, discovering new things all the time...
  2. With this many white clouds in the sky, I think the b&w version works better. The colour version I think might have worked better when there would have been less clouds and more blue. But it's definitely an original composition, aiming at the eye of the Eye.

  3. Having been away for quite a while, I (as usual) enjoyed going through all the posts you made, especially this series on the London Eye. I like this composition a lot, giving a view of the surroundings as well. The sepia tones, with the darker upper left corner, gives the overall a bit of a feeling like it's taken from an old promotion film (back in the days the world still used to be b&w).

    A Plain dragonfly.

Cherlyn, I have to agree with Amal. This is definitely not just a 'plain dragonfly' but a small piece of art. I like the way you composed this shot, with the dragonfly just off centre. The sparkles in the water add interest in the background, without distracting too much from the main subject. They also, in some way, highlight the beauty of this dragonfly.

    Edges Tension...

          25
I find it amazing how you managed to capture the tension between the two persons in the foreground. Adding the image in the background only adds to this feeling. Truely a photo that tells a story, though to my feeling, not a happy one...
  4. I see... I see... I see a little girl that took the binoculars out of the drawer of her father's desk and is quite amazed, but also doubtful, about what she is seeing through them.

Fun photo! I've often looked at wood to spot images (as well as in clouds, rocks, ...), but never found such amazing clear 'views'...

    Secret Code

Howard, most people would have walked right passed this without even noticing it, but you turned it into a beautiful, sort of abstract image. Though I like the b&w and the composition, I can't help but miss the hook in the bottom right...

    Follow the Sun

A beautiful capture, full of colour and forms! The focus didn't really bother me as it leads your eye on a discovery deeper into the image and back again. Though I'm having a bit of a problem with the fact that the foreground is darker than the background, which in the end leads my eye to the (OOF) background. Maybe this could be solved by brightening up the foreground a little bit?
