Back up a little and get the 85 1.4, best Nikon has.

Tamrac Velocity 9x

70 - 200 VR

I also have a pair of the Flashpoints, they're great monolights for the money.

If you want to go the other route you can probably pick up a used 1000 watt Dynalite box (w/variator knob) and a couple of the fan cooled heads for about the same money, they're compact and super reliable - great service department if they ever need repair.
While your at it, get a pair of Photek umbrella boxes and some Bogen stands and a Sekonic light meter and you'll have a kit that will serve you for years to come.

70-200 VR

Keep your D200 untill the D700X or whatever Nikon will name their 24 MP prosumer version of the D3X arrives, and get the 70-200 VR (its actually sharper on DX than FX).
BTW in 5 months let alone 5 years the current production models will all be proclaimed old junk by the Photography magazines and the so called internet experts !

Try to set up in a separate room or part of the hall where only you have access to your subjects.

D700 vs D3
in Nikon
What the D700 has that the D3 doesn't is an A/F assist light. Its great to have ISO 12500 - but its no good if the camera cant auto focus in that dark an environment. -
Just wanted to see if there is anyone going, it used to be a great weekend - but some of the old timers said it
has diminished over the years.
-
I've had two sets, the 300 watt and the 900 watt Flashpoints - they are both great lights, very well made (Bosh from W.Germany) and pretty consistent. Oh yeah, one thing - they're heavy so get a good pair of stands.
-
After playing the game (bought a D2Xs last June, and the D3 comes out in December and picked up a D300 last February) I'm going to sit this one out and wait for the D3X. Hopefully it will have very little noise up to ISO 3200 and come in at around 24MP's.
The line up will probably be the D3X for studio/landscape and the D3 for event/sport photography, if the D2X/D2h was any indication of Nikon's strategy.

17-55 - The best wedding lens, .
-
Spend your money on lenses and lighting, the good stuff lasts forever.
-
For what you pay for the 9500 you could buy 2-3 I-90 portable printers that are battery powered and wireless capable, perfect for pictures on the "fly".
-
-
Check out Innovatronix, a great product (I have two) with more than enough power at a great price (compared to some of the "Major" brands).
-
Since your familiar with pack and head systems and the their lighting ratios, you should check out Dynalite.
They are very portable and built to last and offer great customer service.
-
You obviously have an Internet connection, so why couldn't you just order one from one of the large dealers ie: B&H, Calumet, Adorama etc..... any of the Sekonics would serve you well.

I think its a great idea !
Then every jerk and his cousin wouldn't be able to instantly become a pro the minute he goes out and buys a point and shoot. In NYC you need a license for everything except making babies and being a Wedding/Event photographer.
It would really do allot towards making the business for professionals only !

Tamrac Velocity 7 if D300 w/o grip, Velocity 9 w/grip.
OBTW if you think there not going to try to steal your bag because it doesn't look like a camera bag, think again-they'll steal anything thats not nailed down.

Try to pick up a used Dynalite set - Pack and 3 heads- on craig's list or e-bay.

Flatiron on 17th st off of 6th ave.

Maybe you had a bad demo example, mine takes pretty sharp shots on my D200/300.

Check out the Adorama Flashpoint monolights, I have had several pair, all built like tanks and work great for the money.
