The cold Arctic air gave clear skies for a few days here on Vancouver Island. My shot shows local fisher folk checking their crab traps with Mount Baker 73 miles away in the background.

Classic Manual Camera Friday #24
GlennS replied to Mike Gammill's topic in Classic Manual Film Cameras

Last week I posted a photo I'd taken of my father with his Rollei 2.8C almost 60 years ago (1955). This was the previous negative on the roll, yours truly as a young boy complete with slingshot in back pocket. Where do the years go so fast?
Sadly I don't have the 2.8C today, but it was replaced with a 2.8E Planar version. It's a keeper, but doesn't get used enough.

-

This male Pileated Woodpecker (Dryocopus pileatus) decided to land on the fence next to my house. He hung around just long enough for me to scoop up a camera. Hope the bit of fence isn't too much hom ?

Classic Manual Camera Friday #23
GlennS replied to Mike Gammill's topic in Classic Manual Film Cameras

I was going through some old papers and found an envelope of negatives. My discovery appears to be the first roll from my fathers Rolli 2.8c shot in 1955. Father was showing off his new camera and teaching me how to use it, "look in here, focus with this thing, push this button when it looks right". Quite likely this is my first shot from a life time using cameras. I was about 10 when I clicked the shutter on this one of my father beside the Bow river in Calgary.

-

Steve, I like your minimalist shot, made me stop and look closely.

Haven't had a chance to soup and scan any film lately so one from the archives.
I wonder if the rumor is true, that Santa gives a copy of his naughty list to the Bogeyman?

I'm seeing an increasing number of these lizards on Southern Vancouver Island. Not sure of species, perhaps invasive? Photo was at a local beach on driftwood log.

Went out early on a foggy morning and found these Hooded Mergansers (Lophodytes cucullatus) doing their mating ritual. It involved the males doing power swimming in circles while extending their necks. The females did their best to look uninterested.
Location southern Vancouver island.
I did some tests a while back using a D800e and 60mm Micro AFD with flash exposure (SB800 on extension). The results were very good and comparable to what I get from a Nikon Coolscan 5000. One drawback, no automatic dust removal like CS-5000 can do, but it would sure be faster than scanning. If your slides are clean and good condition it should work fine.
I used live view and manual focus to make sure things were spot on. An LED flashlight replaced the flash for focus.

Some nice images, thanks for sharing. I stopped to check out the light on this back road and ended up doing a contra jour shot of my wheels.

Had to dig into my archives, for an old shot from Vladivostok. I was part of an oceanographic expedition on a Soviet vessel and on my way back to the ship after getting a bottle of vodka for the cruise. ;-)

-

I was checking my plum tree for aphids and found these two ladies hard at work under a leaf.
D3200 and 60mm AFD.
