1.
Can't seem to find the dark slide for my Polaroid 405 holder (stupid, i know!). Anyways, I'm looking for some advice from others who may have had a similar problem. Any place to find a legitimate replacement? Any other dark-slides (for other holders) functionally compatible? Please let me know what you recommend. And building one myself isn't exacly my preference, but if you have something worthy of adding, I'd love to hear. Many thanks ahead of time.

  2.
I am interested in purchasing a Gundlach camera that appears to be in good usable condition. I wonder if anyone has had experience with these? It would need a new lensboard and lens. Any idea what size lensboard they take? Any obvious limitations worth knowing? Thanks

  3.
I'm curious how a warped bellows would affect image quality, if at all? The camera is for sale (a Calumet) and it seems the bellows was slightly folded, so it is out of its normal 'accordion' shape. It isn't terrible, and if there are no leaks, will this matter? Also, how easy is it to find a replacement Calumet 4x5 bellows? Thanks ahead of time!

  4. I just got myself a Nikon CoolScan 8000ED film scanner and was working on scanning some unmounted 120 film. I've

had plenty of experience with this scanner and ones similar, but never was presented with this problem. When I

clicked on the thumbnail preview button in the Nikon Scan software, it was obvious that each frame was not

centered in the small thumbnail window, and were all slightly off center. My first thought was that irregular

spacing between frames caused the alignment to be off (due to an accidentally loose spool when loaded). My

second thought was that the hardly discernible frame edges (due to shots on a black background) could have caused

preview to be off, and therefore the thumbnails. Has any had prior experience with this? Any thoughts? Lastly,

is there a way to preview the entire strip and then crop from the whole strip to counter this problem, or can you

only preview and then scan via the thumbnail view? Thanks for your help ahead of time.

  5. I have used Denver Digital for mail order E-6 processing in the past, and have been very happy with the results.

Unfortunately, though, I'd like to have some 35mm B/W processed along with more 120 E-6, and Denver Digital

doesn't provide B/W processing. Instead of sending for processing to two different labs, I was wondering if

anyone was familiar with a lab that provides both E-6 and B/W processing? Any recommendations? Or would your

recommendation be to utilize two separate but reputable labs? Many thanks.

  6. I'm starting a project using 120 slide film (400x) and am thinking ahead to when

I will scan the positives on my Epson 4990. Should I request that the slides be

not mounted so that I can use the 120/220 film-holder, or is there a way scan

the mounted slides while still obtaining very high quality results. Any

recommendations? Do they make a film-holder for 120 slides? Thanks.

  7. Hello,

I am really interested in buying prints from several photojournalists (Vietnam

era). I gone to the AP and UPI websites with limited success finding prints for

sale. Do any of you have an knowledge of where vintage-current PJ prints may be

    purchased?

  8. I will be doing some part-time Photoshop freelance work with an artist working

with many files and ultimately compiling an exhibition. I am looking for advice

as to how I should charge my rate. Per hour? (I am at home so verification would

be an issue for them, although honesty is not the problem) Per file completed? I

am just curious how others have gone about similar situations. Any advice is

    greatly appreciated!

  9. Have you downloaded the paper profiles from Hahnemuhle? I currently use Photo Rag 308 with the R1800 and found everything I needed on their website to get started. Also, I know a few people who insist that using Epson's Enhanced Matte profile while printing on the Photo Rag produces much better results. May be worth a try. In regards to the thickness, I used the manual single sheet feeder that came with the printer. As long as you feed only one sheet at a time while printing, the size isnt an issue. With a roll, just select Manual Roll from the Page Setup...size shouldnt be an issue again.
  10. Conceptually I am taking the street art out of its formal context and through black and white creating imagery that is based on composition, texture, and depth. My project is beside the point and I only mentioned it to give an idea of the cicumstances I would be shooting in. I asked for recommendations on films, not critique...my reasons for black and white is concept, not ignorance. And since when is art necessarily color?
  11. I am starting a project photographing steet art and am curious about what films

you might recommend or use considering you were facing the same project. I will

be shooting outdoors in sunny/overcast weather so considered using Tri-X 320 or

FP4+. Also, I will be scanning the negatives on a Nikon 9000 or Imacon and will

be printing digitally with a goal of approximately 12 x 18. I realize the

scanning seems overkill, but the detail achieved is astounding. Anyways, in

terms of film, what do you think?

  12. I am about to invest in a Mamiya M645 1000s so I can begin shooting medium

format. Usually I try to do extensive research on the equipment before I take

the plunge bout have found it difficult to find any reviews of the Sekor lenses.

I have read a few places that the lenses are excellent performers, but have yet

to find any specific details or reviews pertaining to individual lenses. I

wonder if anyone can recommend one or two lenses, particularlly in the normal to

wide range that would be a perfect match to this camera. On a side note, I have

read that the 80mm 2.8 is both pin sharp and soft...any thoughts? Also, C lenses

would be just fine compared to the N lenses as long as they have the

performance...thats all Im worried about. Thanks

  13. Am just gettin into medium format photography and am intrigued by the possibilities of larger printing. I

am familiar with digital printing techniques and consistently get good results with 35mm at 12x18, but

feel limited with the printing size. I have done some research about these sizes and want to get some

opinions on some advantages and weaknesses of some of these negative formats. Id like to get started as

soon as possible, the only choice thats stopping me is the which size is best. As a side note, how large

realistically can a 645 be enlarged compared to say a 6x6 or 6x7...would the 645 be plenty for a large

portion of needs? The only reason I ask is results:price, although I dont want to feel limited again with the

    645. Ill stop now...let me know what you think.

  14. I am a photo savvy student looking to increase my knowledge on proper exposure methods. I shoot film

with an F100 and shoot both negative/slide and color/b&w films. I have used matrix metering and spot

metering in the past with good results, but I really want to understand the exposure process. I know the

basics and how to achieve good results, but I want to really study and learn the craft of exposure

efficiently. I am interested in any books or resources people may have to recommend pertaining to the

    subject. Thanks
