  1. When I put a photo for rate I can see that I get low rate by a lot of

anonymous people. Now that is fine but why just to rate low without a

meaningful comment? Aren't we here to learn? That is why I post my

photos for critiques so I want comment when somebody rates low.

What this anonymous rate means ?, are these from non members? In that

case shouldn't they been forced to comment when they post a rate

    bellow 4 i.e?

    Sorry for the english

  2. Hi, I have right now a coolpix 4300 and I would like to make a jump

into a more versatile digital camera like the sony dsc-v3 or canon-G6.

What I want is more color definition, more control of focus and a lot

    of less shuter lag.

Some ideas of what camera should i pick, I am almost convinced of the

Canon G6, is this a good choice? I do not have the money to buy a

DSRL so i have to go for a "prosumer" camera, maybe the Sony DSC-717?

  3. As Heller Harris said:"It's simpler to just cut off the top and bottom of the ratings, as that's where the abuse occurs. E.g., Cut the top 5% and bottom 5% of any set of ratings, and then calucate the score based on the remainder. A system like this works to eliminate eccentric and/or ignorant scores, as well as intentionally abusive scores".

This is a solution like in sports, gymnastics, etc.

i think thi a good solution if you get a lot of 1 or 2 and a lot of 7 then you do en average with the rest plus some porcent of tghe low and high numbers, that is the solution.

Annyway the non-members are anonymous and I get the low points from them without knowing what kind of photo they have, they do not leave even comments and that is irritating, just a number and nothing more.

I mean you want to learn so all comments are welcome.

But the members seems to be more serious.

If you take photography in serious you will not go and rate down another because he put you a 1,2 or 3? or?

    Thanks.

  4. To John:

It saids that crop is ok and it is consider as unmanipulated, so if crop is ok then put a frame should be ok, or?

I do not consider puting a frame to a photo as manipulation, you may think the other way around, but you can do this when you develop an "analog" film in the lab, is this manipulation then?. I do not think so.

Fine my photos have frames but I saw a lot of members that said that the photo where unmanipulated and still thet all have frames. So what should we do, stop to critiseze the 90% of the photos because they have frames?

  5. Thanks a lot!

Of course that I do not care what this guy said and I can handle all sort critics that have a ground, but it is just that this comment for me has no ground. I mean his view of what is photographic is very different of the way I think.

A lot of the best photogrphers in history took photos in some minutes, like the street photographs. And that is what I like, I like to take photo things in everyday life, children playing, cars, arquitecture, etc. But some other people just take landscapes and nothing more and for them may my photos suck.

But is bad when somenbody just through you a comment like that with out some more ground or explain you why? No his comment is mine portfolio and that sucks, mmmmm.

    Tahnk you a lot!

  6. Hi, for 9 days ago I started to visit this site (I love it),I am a

beginner and I always loved photography but I started to take it

more in serous the last christmass when I bought a coolpix 4300 and

start taking photos. Now because I am not a fully member I do not

have a big quota but I put some photos from last weeks.

In my portfolio I got an non pleaseant comment (at least is what I

think). Bassically this member said that my photos suck because he

found them uninteresting and they not qualify as 'photographs'.

So to be interesting?, do you think yuo have to spend 16hs in

shooting some photos or it is enough with some minutes?. The rates

that I got are very spread so as always the taste is very different.

But instead of give me some courage he just broke my self steem. I

    will not quit annyway.

But what do you think qualify as 'photographs' as this guy said to

    me?

Am I the only one that not qualify as 'photographs'?

  7. Since when? Well the F717 and the F828 are very good cameras not point and shoot but really good cameras.

The DSC-w1 is one of the best 5MP point and shoot cameras, very quick in shuter lag and focus, go to dpreview otherwise, the DSC-W7 has not got so good reviews as the DSC-w1. I would change the DSC-w7 for the w1 or w12 (is the black one, I think is called w12).i do not know about the SW, but do you need it?.

  8. Thanks Katha.

What I feel about this camera is as you said the focus probelm and many times colour, they seem "not alive", darker (may be what you said about underexposure), another tonallity.

It takes ok pictures but do you think junping to a 5MP will get better result?

  9. Hi

For 6 months ago I bought COOLPIX 4300, this is my first dig cam

and it woke up my interest in photo again (I have a CanonIX7 too),

some of you may have one of this, so I wonder what do you think

about this one, it is wisw to go for a 5 MP camera like the Sony DSC

F-717, I can not afford an expensive camera like Nikon D70, EOS

    300,350 etc.

But I want to take clear colour pictures and I feel like this

coolpix 4300 it not giving me what I want (Sorry for my english by

    the way).

    I will apreciate inputs.

    Thanks

    /Gus
