    Dejection part II

          15

    Absolutely incredible.

I have a shot in my PN portfolio where I tried something similar. Yours is so much better.

Now I have to go rework my shot!

How did you capture the original? Is this lighting natural?

Three cheers for the Nikon Coolpix 4300! Poor kid. He probably spent all night wondering why it takes 3 seconds for the shutter to fire after you press the button...

I think this is a good photo because of the kid. It would be interesting to see the results if you blur everything but the kid and the couple.

Tremendous photo. The light shining in is wonderful- could be the light of Christ. Very powerful. This photo does what many fail to do, and that is to connect the church with the awesomeness of God. Spirituality is very hard to depict on film. You did it.

In my church and cathedral photos I have not been able to do what you have done.

    I applaud you.

Beautiful! I imagine the ancient trees in a Tolkein story.

Brilliant photo. This could not have been so interesting any other way.

  1. Beautiful! This image has so many wonderful aspects. The technical details are perfect, but what makes the photo so beautiful to me is the emotion.

I imagine the boy's thoughts as he sits with his father- So much to look at in the church, so happy to be with his father, all balanced with coming to an understanding of God and what that means for his life and himself. The ray of sunshine coming through the window like God looking down on him, welcoming the boy into a love he cannot yet fathom. Hosanna in the highest...

    So much here. Just wonderful.

gorgeous colors work well with the silhouetted pier. great job. The very top edge of the photo is a bit dark. Was this intentional? I find it a little distracting from the rest of the photo which is fantastic. 6/6

Great photo. I wonder how it would look cropped along the belt, right above the girl's head? Might place more emphasis on her since she's the start of the photo. :)

Your use of lighting is wonderful and the shadow detail is great.

I like the use of light window dressing to break up the window frame. The curve in her body is very nice.

Very tasteful photo. I could see this as a Victoria's Secret ad.

  2. Tried a symmetrical approach so that the details pop out instead of

the subject in and of itself.

This church is in downtown Tampa on busy street, sandwiched between

a parking garage and a municipal building. Straight on was the only

    approach to the church's facade.

    comments welcome.

  3. Very dramatic. It almost feels as though I am looking back in time due to the tonality you gave it. I also like that it is not overly sharp because I think that would draw attention to one element or another- while this way the whole composition blends well.

With the wave action the pier looks more like a ship foundering in the swell.

Very interesting take on what might otherwise have been a boring photo. Great job.

  4. Available light shot of columns and pews inside the St. Louis

Cathedral Basilica. Strong north lighting coming through the

windows mixed with the little spotlights you see on the upper

balcony. I found this to be one of the trickiest exposures I've

done so far. 4 seconds at f/11 metering for the shadows.
