1. Thanks for your input. My lab offers ICC-profiles for different papers they use, but only for photoshop and lightroom. Have to find out if or how I could use them with darktable or gimp.
 2. In the last years I more and more turned from film photography to digital. I had my own darkroom for many years and always loved b&w photography. With my turn to digital I somehow did more colour work. During the last month my interest in b&w rose again. I'd love to use film again, but don't have the time and space for my darkroom right now and scanning is no option. I'm trying to work on my files useing darktable (Ubuntu user) and slowly am getting better. So much for my background. My question is, which format for my files I should choose when I'm sending them to a lab to get them printed? I understood that jpgs suffer from substantial loss in grey tones. What alternatives are there?
 3. I could underline all you've said. Sometimes active since 2004, most of the time not :-( Darkroom since my youth, but not in use for maybe 3 years now. And also that my photos fall behind many photos I've seen on pn. What I always liked about pn was the "international flavour". I'm not only learning about photography, but also gathering cultural insight.
 4.
Thanks for the link, Laurie. I haven't realized that there is a site to it. Very beautiful photos.

 5.
The german newspaper "Sueddeutsche Zeitung" brought an article today about an exhibition and a film project of a photographer and a directer, both with slowakian and jewish roots. Starting with an interview series with Ausschwitz survivors they discovered the remains of librairies of the jewish communities. The people are long gone, most murdered by the nazis, but the books are still there, decaying, rotten, some literary turned to stone. I wanted to share the trailor about this project. It's a german trailer, but the artists speak in english, so you will understand it.
https://www.youtube.com/embed/HC12D53mUxY?hl=de_DE&hd=1&rel=0&wmode=transparent

And here's a link to the article:
http://www.sueddeutsche.de/politik/spuren-juedischen-lebens-in-der-slowakei-bis-die-moerder-kamen-1.2505517

The interview stories must have been very touching for the artists. The article claims that in one interview the film maker realized that the old woman they interviewed was the former lover of her own father. They lost each other in the war and prosecution troubles, the man escaped to England and both married different people.
Apart from the interessting subject I think this projects illuminates the strength of both media and how they can be combined.

 6.
Vielen Dank für deine vielen humorvollen und informativen Beiträge. Alles Gute für die Zukunft und immer eine handbreit Wasser unter dem Kiel.

Grüße aus Nordeutschland, Stefan

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LWQbuJ24Wzg

 7. Up to ISO1600 the G3 does a pretty decent job. For the price for used cams you have to pay, I guess you hardly find a better deal. My only complains are about battery life and DR. Both could be better. I'm in the market for a used GX-7. Held one in my hands and liked it :-) I have the 20mm Mark I and although focusing is slow it's definitely a keeper.
 8.
For travelling and hiking I would suggest to take a closer look at the mirrorless section. For example Olympus the OM-D or the Panasonic GX-7. High quality, lightweight and some modells are weather sealed. if that is important. From my experience you get used to the EVF very quickly and they are very good nowadays.

 9.
It has more to do with my taste and his style, which is a bit too dramatic for my taste. I understand that he photographed "human drama", so maybe one could say his style fits perfectly, but I mostly prefer photographers that don't shout so loud in their photos. Salgado, as a person or at least how Wenders portraid him in the film, appears to be a humble, friendly and thoughtful person. He is succesful, yes, but he worked hard for it. I must say, I simply liked him and I think I understand his photos better now.

 10.
I saw "Salt of the earth" because I'm a great follower of Wim Wenders, himself not only a great director, but also a very good photographer. Never been a fan of Salgado, but Wenders brought him much closer to me. Excellent film!
