Tanya, what a nice portrait as everyone has already said. I really like the shot, and I enjoy your portfolio. Keep up the excellent work. Also, Ivet has stunning eyes, very beautiful--which are illuminated in this portrait by your selection of a complimentary background color. Great shot, I am learning from your example.

Thanks David, I have made the correction. I guess my monitor is brighter by nature than most because several of my friends have commented that the picture is dark. It looks fine printed however.

I pass by this old structure all the time. Maybe some of you have seen
it, it sits right along the Westbound I-40 at Jackrabbit Rd, Exit 269,
near Winslow, Arizona. I took this shot with the tripod on the bed of
my pickup to bring the view of the window looking through another
window in line. Anyhow, your comments are appreciated.

Just wanted to get opinions on this photo. I touched it up using
Photoshop to get the "Dragonized" effect. First time it has actually
worked to my satisfaction. Thanks.

I love the tonality of this image. Great colors and composition. I also like the pathway. One other possibility would have been to capture this image with an Ultra-wide angle lens with a close-up shot of the walkway in the lower right corner from a low position, which would still give a nice shot of the light tower, but with a little drama. In any case, I really enjoy this picture. Thanks for sharing.

I think this is a very nice shot. I also would think that it might have a better look to it if the anchor was a little close to the bottom of the frame, which would also bring the boat a little closer, thus giving us a better view of the boat. But all in all I think it?s a cool shot and I bet it was fun to shoot.

Great shot. Very original in my view. Black and white really does it here. Thanks.

I just wonder what people think of this image. I'm looking for some
friendly advice more than anything... I'm still learning, but some of
the images I've seen here have inspired me to try and look at some of
my favorite pictures in a new and different way. I'm wondering if it
works or if there is something else I can do with this. I thought
about keeping the B&W background in a crisp focus, but it seemed to
take away from the subject a little. Any thoughts would be welcome.

This is one of those images that makes me want to travel more. I really like how the eye is focused on the monk via the colors, but it is not overwhelming, my eye still wanted to wonder around and look at the detail in the walls after first being directed to the subject. Great shot.

Very nice work here. Beautiful, it must have been something to be there. Inspiring work.

This picture was taken during a graduation ceremony at an elementary
school in Havana, Cuba in the summer of 2003.

I really enjoyed this photo. Great job. I love the composition, especially the woman with the cloth over her face. Just great. I will be spending some time in China soon and I might make a side trip to Vietnam as well. Thanks for sharing this.

John,
After reading my own words I realized that I didn't really say what I wanted to about your photo. I didn't mean for my comment to focus on my negative perceptions so to speak... Actually what I should have said was that while I think their might be too much attention paid to the police officer, I think the police can be a real effective part of this type of image because the police represent the State, and the interaction between the state and citizenry can bring about all kinds of emotions in an image. I think to focus more on the crowd with the police still in the image would be very effective, plus it?s not something people see a lot of in the U.S.
I think there is a lot of room for creative expression with protest photography (if it can be coined as such). For example we don?t tend to see to many photographs of protests from within the mass. Most of the time we get a glimpse of the crowd from a distance, but I think other views could actually give the viewer the feeling of being right in the middle of things. Anyhow just food for thought. By the way, I like your math pics.

I like the attempt, but would have been better to capture the real subject which was the crowd at the left. A police officer directing traffic is an everyday occurrence. Why not focus on the emotions of those protesting? But I guess in a way the fact that the police officer is the subject of attention says something about how today's peace or anti-war movement is viewed. However, I'd be interested to see your other pics of this event.
