doing it on a bike... could be dangerous.... but really seriously this is a fun shot...

I wish that PHOTONET would let us know WHO voted .. they used to list the name of anyone who was a paying member... that helps me... I have in the past asked that person.. WHY even when they rated me high.. want to know again so I can improve ....

Ok so I understand everyone has an opinion and photos are a matter of taste. However, I really do not understand why so many times I get at least one 3 along with a bunch of 5 6 7's. I notice that no matter how good a photo is.. and I am not talking about just mine.... anyone... most of them end up with 3's ... I have seen photos that got 10 ratings of 6 and 7 and then almost always there is 3 ...
I would love to have some of these people leave a comment as to WHY they rated it a 3. SO YES I want to learn and improve using constructive criticism. Rating someone a 3 is not helpful when the over whelming concensus is that they love the photo. Now I realize this photo didnt get any 3's but it did get some 4's - so tell me why. I really love to hear WHY ... I might go OH I SEE... never thought of that ... as I said my purpose for submitting on this site is TO LEARN.. I want to get better...
I learn more from constructive criticism then from praise... but getting a 3 (or a 4) without telling me why dont help at all.... I sometimes think that there are people out there who vote 3's to boost their photo ratings ... I hope that is not the case....
Hey I have rated some 3 or 4 and I try to give a comment as to why... and some people have thanked up for the help.... that is what this is all about ... to make us all better artists and or photographers

Nadya this is not up to par with some of your other work... this would have been a great shot - love the bubbles ....and the mutted feel of the almost black and white quality of the colors - however that piece of aluminum foil or mirror or whatever that is, is totally distracting and ruins the picture...

Thank you all for the gracious inputs ..... I noticed that I got some very high ratings and some low ones... I think the reason for this is that some people just do not like the oversaturated photos like this one ... I deliberately did that to bring out the richness of the place... it gives it sort of a painterly look which is what I wanted.... I was not trying to get the REAL documentary look here, but a more sureal feeling ...... as I said it isnt everyones cup of tea but that is the beauty of art - very subjective - makes life interesting...
cheers

The Elves got it right for making this their choice for PHOTO OF THE WEEK FORUM....the cultural differences between two worlds is well expressed in this picture..... good job Saad....... now having said that, I will add that the gentlemen who used the word "prostitute" to describe the lady in the bikini knew exactly what the word meant and the irony of his use of that word to me is that in his culture that is dominated by men, ie being a patriarchal society, that real prostitutes can be found in every major city of the Muslim world, and a large number of Muslim men visit these prostitutes starting at an early age. There maybe those that will deny this, but I have been told this by both a Sunni Muslim and a Shiite Muslim, from two different Middle Eastern countries.
The fact that this photo has inspired so many to comment, is evidence of the power Mr Saad Salem's photo has on people. THAT is what photography is all about..... again great job .... -
Nadya
just found this piece of art ... wonderful in its simplicity... they say that good compostion is "THE ELIMINATION OF ALL UNECCESSARY ELEMENTS" ... you have captured that essence beautifully...
