1.
Hey Guys,

I have got enough responses. If anyone is still planning to take the survey, please DO NOT take it, as it will not be counted.

Thanks to everyone who commented here, although some of those comments were off topic rants or reflections of cynical attitude! All constructive criticisms were duly noted. This was a good learning experience. Hopefully, I will be able to prepare a better survey next time, if needed for any other class.

Double thanks to those who took the survey in good faith, ignoring comments like viral marketing etc. from gossip mongers. I am analyzing the data. I will let you know what I find.

 2.
People,

Please share this with your friends so that they can take part in the survey. And thanks a lot for your inputs, comments, counter points. And thanks for saving my anatomically posterior part of the body from Bill Lynch :-)

This survey is not from any actual company. This is created by 3 students (including me). The survey is long and thorough, so that we (students) get a real understanding of the consumer behavior. In this age (of eroding corporate social responsibilities - according to Bill) it is very important to understand what consumers actually want first and then develop product offerings accordingly. So, if from the survey, it becomes clear that consumers do not want a revival of kodachrome, then that is it. Ideally that would be the recommendation from a good marketer to his / her boss. On the other hand, if the survey shows that there is a strong emotional connection to kodachrome name, and consumers are willing to buy related products with that particular name, then this creates a market opportunity, particularly for a company like Kodak. This is how market opportunity is identified and explored.

However, please keep in mind that nothing actually is going to happen or change, as I mentioned again and again that this survey is just a class exercise. It would be interesting to know how people think about photography in general and kodachrome in particular.

I will share the results once this is over in 2 weeks.

Hey Bill,
I am not that bad as you have assumed. Who knows, may be I will be a socialy responsible CEO one day, who is not driven by personal greed and ego, who understands the imporatnce of sustainibility, who listen carefully to the consumers etc etc. May be you do not know that the focus of MBA curriculum shifted a lot in the last 5 years from what perception you have about MBAs. May be you and I can sit down one day in future and have few beers together when I am visiting your town or vice versa. And who knows, may be I will be able to sell you few packs of reformulated "New Kodachrome" :-))

 3.
Thank you guys. I will post the summary once this is over in 2 weeks.
I need about 100 responses to make it meaningful. Please pass this information to your friends so that they can also participate.
Tim...... Those questions are trying to find how strong is brand association and whether the association can be used to diversify into related products. You will se it all the time from all big companies e.g. Canon sells camera, lens, printer, printing paper and so many things.

 4.
Dear film users and other members,

A few weeks ago I posted a question to explore some ideas about kodachrome. It is for a MBA class project. I would like to thank all of you who have responded to my initial question.

Now my team has created an online survey to capture data for quantitative analysis and I need your help. Your participation in the survey will help me to get some insight on the situation.

The link to the survey is
http://qshare.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_8wi3OHlubZ5EeOM&SVID=

The online survey is strictly for academic purpose and all responses will be anonymous. Additionally, there will be no solicitation for any brand or product promotion. The survey measures a photographer's awareness, attitude, loyalty and tries to understand the benefits that photographers seek from their products.

I would like to request all forum members, who are reading this post and who have used film at least once in last 12 months, to take part in the survey.

There are 7 sections in the survey and it takes approximately 15-20 minutes to finish it. Once again, this survey is created by and will be used by academics, solely for scholarly purpose. There is no hidden agenda like trying to get your contact number for product promotion. There is no question in the survey asking for any contact information like email, blog or phone. I only need your honest opinion on some aspects of film photography.

The link to the original question is given below.

Thanks a lot for your help.

 5.
Thank you guys, so far, for your inputs. My team is analyzing the preliminary feedbacks from you and some other folks from other sources. My team is preparing a survey based on your inputs. We will use the survey response for our quantitative analysis.

Again, this is a marketing MBA project. So my team does not have to come up with a super positive result i.e. profitable brand revival. We are trying to figure out what is important to consumers (you) and if we can add those attributes to kodachrome (hypothetically), will it revive and to what extent?

I am sending some PMs requesting you to take part in the survey. So far, you guys have been very helpful, and I am hoping to get more support from you in the form of survey response for this particular project.

Cheers......

6.
Hi fellow forum members,

I am Subho, a member of the photo net, and an irregular user of films.

I am also a Marketing MBA student, doing a project on consumer insight, this Spring semester. My team's topic is to find out the situation with film photography in general and kodachrome brand in particular.

I know most of you have used / some may be still using film frequently. I have a medium format and I use film for that. However, it is infrequent.

I would like to get some feedback from you about your thoughts and comments on the future of film photography. I read that it is almost dead. But I got to figure out - how dead and is there any hope or niche segment in the market for film usage. What is the possibility of a partial kodachrome revival, for a targeted segment of the market?

I would love to talk to you individually or in a small group of 3-4 people via chat or something similar on this subject. I would greatly appreciate if you can send me a PM or an email (kibipod@yahoo.com) telling me how to contact you. I will provide my phone number, if you prefer to talk.

This is a MBA course project and I am not a Kodak employee. So there is no catch, no solicitation. I am only seeking your opinion and inputs. This will be used only for academic purpose.

Please help.

 7.
It is very encouraging for me to see a 645D released in near future as I love to shoot with my Bronica SQA medium format. My biggest concern is the price tag. I am not sure how long I have to wait to see the price of an used body going for $2000. May be 3-4 years after its release! An used camera pricer than that - I am out. As an amateur, I will never be able to justify my purchase to my family :-(

 8.
Hello Nathan,
If you are only looking at primes, then there is a manual focus Tokina 17mm f/3.5. The IQ of the lens is very good and without dramatic barrel distortion. Its a old style lens i.e. sturdy built quality.
Hope this helps.
Subho

 9.
All these color schemes ............soooooo tempting. I am undecided though as I like my K20D. But who knows, may be I will decide to sale K20D and go for either K7 or Kx. I have not bought any lens in a while, so at least I got to satisfy my CBA :-)

 10.
I can tell you how I did this........open the simulator link that Hin posted. Thanks Hin. Once you finish your selection, click on the green square box, it takes you to a new page and you will see a green square box again with a printer pic. Click on that green box again and it will make a PDF file.

I selected just the camera picture from the PDF and copy pasted into a new jpeg image with photoshop. Thats it. My method might not be the best one. I do not understand the language. So I only relied on symbols and the good thing is it worked.

 11.
This is an interesting set of observation Jacques. I am undecided at this point as I am happy with my K20D.

I have a question for you. You commented (#4) that the K7 noise was significantly less than K20D / K10D. You mentioned that you shot at 100ISO. Did you mean you observed less noise at 100ISO? K20D at 100ISO should not be that noisy.

 12.
wait a second.............

is Javier doing an early / late april fool on us? is Javier asking whether the camera did not focus properly so the images "look soft" ? then it is camera auto focus problem. wearing glasses would not help here. if he is doing manual focus and he has eye problem.........i understand his concern. i did not check the exif yet to see whether it is manual focus.

on a side not: i am supposed to look at the eyes of the monroe pic, but my eyes keep focusing somewhere else.............i think i have a problem too :-))

 13.
Hey,
Why is Mis (and Bob K) calling Ioritz as Loritz ?? Time to change keyboard.

Ioritz - welcome to pentax world. You will not regret your decision :-) Used lenses are cheap. Consider that also while building your system.

 14.
It is Sunday i.e. funday. How come no one started the thread yet. Am I the only one awake?

I downloaded the trial version of Lightroom and played a little bit with it. I guess it is very good for organizing photos. Here is a pic of my wife (my non co-operative model) developed in LR.

 15.
Haig,

You are a very skillful photographer. Whenever you post with whatever gear combo, the pics look amazing. Also I like your portraits a lot and hope one day I would be able to achieve something similar.

Cheers,

 16.
There is a nice small flash AF200T with manual variable power output option. It is safe with dslrs. I have one and I use it often. It has hotshoe. You need an adapter with pc port to use it with a pc sync cord, off camera. The flash sells for appx $20-30 used, from big online stores.
