Thanks guys.
Matt, I have a D200 and D700. I use the 70-200mm VR for sports (mostly) and wildlife shootings, that's why I was wondering if the 2x teleconverter would be a good choice. With the D200 I can get 2x200mm + 1.5x crop factor to get a reach equivalent to 600mm (if my math is correct)...
Maybe I need to find a place and see if I can rent the unit to try it out first.

Does anyone have experience with the TC20IIE 2x teleconverter on the 70-200mm f2.8 VR lens?
How is the image quality at 2x200mm? Is the teleconverter worthwhile getting?
Thanks
John

Can you live with 5 megapixels when you shoot DX lens on a D700 though?
-
Check the setup and see if D50 has an auto exposure compensation option (I don't remember the name). It exists on my D200 and the camera basically compensates by adjusting the exposure compensation (ie, -1, -0.5, etc etc).
Check and see if that option is on... If it is then that is the culprit. I accidentally activated that option once and my indoor pictures ended up with different exposure values (Yes I locked the aperture to f8)...

Would someone shoot me if I run around with a 50mm f1.4 D lens on a D700? :) :) :)
Still contemplating on getting a 20mm f2.8 or a 17-35mm lens...

Why a D300?
in Nikon
What kind of lenses do you have? DX Lens? If so, going with a D700 would not be a good idea because you will end up
with a 5 meg pixel camera if you put DX lenses on it. This means you would need to get new lenses.
The differences between D200 and D300 are not many --> longer battery life, 12 vs 10 m-pixel (not important), ADR on
D300 (not a life or death option), bigger viewfinder(?), 51-pt autofocus on D300 (again not a life or death option), 14 bit vs
12 bit RAW...
I would stay with D200....

Try locking aperture ring at f22 or widest setting (you have to do this). That's what I do with my D lenses (70-210mm AF ,
35-70mm AF) on my D200 and D700.

Thanks Dmitry,
Is it possible if you can show me another picture (Outdoor setting)? I am thinking of either this 17-35mm or the 14-24mm for wide angle use. I am iffy on the 14mm because it's a bit too wide (not that it is a bad thing).
24-70 mm is my "purchase list' already :)
Thanks in advance.

Confirmed. I have a D200 (still) and it does have the tendency underexposure (Trick to preserver highlights...). I think my old D70 also did the same thing (can't recall but I did notice that the pics were a bit darker).
-
Can someone post a sample pic(s) taken with a D700 + 17-35mm lens?
Thanks

My dad worked in his dark room for 40+ yrs now (he's a B&W fanatic) and he didn't develop cancer. His room was the size of a regular bedroom (not master bedroom), had adequate ventilation but no windows (yes NO windows).
If you are so afraid, wear a gas mask with Oxygen supply? Heheh
-
Yup, I bought 2 caps from bocaphoto before too.
-
Why D700 available now?
1) Nikon increased their inventory?
2) Economy issue? Not many people are willing to shell out $3000?
-
Nah, D700 is enough for me. I rather save the extra cash (okay, $2999 is not cheap) on lenses now instead of getting something "better" and probably more $$$...

Update. Received an email from Ritz. My D700 has been shipped via Fedex
:) :) :)
-
I cancelled my order with Adorama and order one last night from Ritz. I phoned to confirm the order this morning. The rep said the camera is ready to go and should be shipped to me by the end of today (I chose the cheapo route, free shipping) :)
Ritz is fine, I've ordered things from them before (nothing over $500 though) and they all were shipped promptly.
Hopefully everything goes smoothly.

Huh? I just checked B&H. D700 Availability: August.
-
I would wait a bit and see what Nikon will announce in the next few months. If you really want one now then the D300 is the best choice. A brand new D200 is not ideal since the price is only ~$300(?) less than that of the D300.

Thanks for the answers.

Sorry guys if this topic has been discussed before but I am still a bit confused about the DX's 1.5x crop factor.
A 18-200mm VR DX lens means 18-200mm right?
A 70-300mm VR Lens (not DX) means 70*1.5 - 300*1.5 mm right?
Lets say if there is a 18-200mm VR lens and a 18-200mm VR DX lens, I would be able to get 18*1.5 - 200*1.5x mm on
the non-DX lens?
Thanks in advance.

There is nothing wrong with spending $1G on a tripod kit if that is the one which you will keep for a long time :)
But hell $1G is a lot of cash :) :)
Why the 24-70mm f2.8 lens and not the 17-55mm f2.8 DX lens though since you have a D300 (that 1.5x crop factor thing...)?
-
I was there in March. Price is NOT that much cheaper. Also, you need to go to the reputable shops so to ensure that you are not getting something fishy.
-
$1000 for a tripod? You must be loaded...

Just got my 18-200mm VR from Amazon. It seems like Nikon has finally fixed the
lens creep issue. Mine does not creep at all. Okay, the zoom ring is a bit
stiff now...
Light falloff: FF vs film
in Nikon
Posted
Is light falloff (vignetting) more pronounce on FF than on film? I thought FF sensor has the same size as a
35mm film...
