Stacy, I know there's a lot of complaints about them as far as customer service, but with all the sales going on now..they're so hot.. they're probably just crazy busy :)
What worries me more with them is that they're getting so popular everyone's getting them and will end up with photographers that have exactly same pages. I almost got one myself. Although I want something very simple which they offer - I'm very hesitant- I have a (winklet) template and hate it - because so many others have it.
That said, for the $$ their templates are great!

Yeah, most of the comments are right - not to kid you Mary Beth, all that know anything beyond basics can see that you're at your baby steps with this (but we all started somewhere and somehow).
My advice, take all the links from here - read and read and read on technical stuff - practice on your family and friends - have fun with it. Take look at other photographer's sites - literally try to mimic them on composition... look for ideas... your own will come to you with time - now it's time to learn and make yourself better.
If you need any further advice, don't hesitate to ask more questions here (please do understand that many pros are just frustrated by newcomers with cameras not knowing anything about photography and might have mistaken you for one), the process to better yourself, establish your business isn?t an easy one - you need lots of investment in gear, workshops, learning and time -if you're prepared to do that I'm sure you'll be well respected here with time.
Very best of luck :)

Job very well done guys! You're off to an awesome start! The photos are well above average newbie type of pictures :)))
You're taking workshops, you have a great background... stay true to yourselves, develop your own style and you'll do great! Contrats and very best of luck.

Black Hi-top Chuck Tylors :D yeah, yeah.... my clients love it.... not to mention I find them pretty comfortable.

I got this idea from different forum and like to know what you guys think.
What are the best things you got in the past year and what were the worst
purchases?
For me:
Best: D200, monitor, new computer, external drive, wpja
Worst: other advertising, bigfolio slide show, self-mount album, weird
diffusers...
I'm sure more will come to me :)
Anyone care to join?

I second winklet... If you're looking for something affordable...those sites are great. Easy to use, clean and professional looking.
I use one of their designs...

As usual, natural, spontaneous and beautiful work from you.
I'm so jealous of the full frame!!! ;))))

Don't get them unless you've got money to spare!!! I know many swear for those but I feel, and I've expressed it here not so long ago, that they're - while nice- not as impressive as I thought from opinions of others. I've collected many actions over the time that are very similar to his. Moreover, I've managed to learn photoshop enough to achieve the effects I wanted the way I wanted. Searching for ways to go around expensive actions through tutorials has been a tremendous learning for me and that's what I praise the most.
I've seen some effects from pack #3 and heard it's pretty limited and repetitive.
Hope that helps.

Lauren, Great start!!!
Why I offer e-sessions? many factors... some of them: couples love nice and artsy photos to share with family and print for themselves, it gives me time for exploration and trying out new things, and most of all it establishes a relationship between me and the couple. I find that after having done e-session the couple is more relaxed and fun in front of my camera during the wedding. They also treat me as a friend having spent time with me not only talking about their wedding but hours shooting.
As far as time goes, you can do whatever works for you. I try to make into 2-3h sessions to get enough variety.
I myself simply enjoying those little photo shoots and gladly offer them to my couples. That said, it's a new thing to me too, as I only offered them since the end of last year. It's a great thing to have a couple love their e-session and I find them to be completely sure of making a choice of picking me!
They get a little taste of me and I get a little taste of them...at the same time just enjoying the company of two people in love...

Whatever tickles your pickles (and hundred other users)David. All I've said that they are not worth the money and there are lots of free actions that achieve same, similar or better effects.
This was towards people that are just starting and do not have extra cash to spend and should not consider...of course those actions are NICE but as photographer you CAN live without them, there's only few that I will use but those are certainly NOT worth the money. So for those who wish to have actions such as KK's and DONT have the money to spare - trust me you're NOT missing that much! ;))))
-
James,
I never said actions (my own, free or bought) are bad?
I've simply stated that the actions I paid for (and those happened to be Kubota's actions) to me are simply not worth the money BECAUSE there are other ways of achieving similar effects be it with our own made actions or free actions that are all over the internet.
When I first started this business I've looked at work of others and always wondered "how was that achieved?" - many gurus were using actions (even more exclusively Kubota's actions). I was a poor student and did not have the money to spend hence, finding other ways of achieving effects that appealed to me. Over the years I've collected small but sufficient library of various actions that match or are better then the ones I just paid for - that's all I wanted to point out :)
-
Sorry, all this was separated and got into one paragraph difficult to read... hope some of you can get through it though. Only my humble honest opinion.
-
So...Yes, I've given in! I got the actions all raved so much about! I'm
disappointed! They do no magic so many swear about. Over the time I've
collected free actions I have modified to my likening and those are the same, if
not some better than the ones from Kubota we all pay for.
I just wanted to share this with some newbies that might not have the extra cash
to spend on, so called, sophisticated tools I so long tried to stay away from.
Through out my journey to find my ways through Photoshop I've gone through so
many online tutorials and some freebies that looking at those actions I've just
purchased makes me think what do people see in them?
I could go on into a long rant about giving in to slick advertising hype but I'm
not...I just wanted to give heads up for those who don't necessarily have the
money to spend on various "bettering tools" to search the Internet and you can
find many similar effects that will be more than sufficient for long time, to
look at tutorials and learn your own way around it. That said, yes, those are
nice (ONLY NICE) and they still need to be worked on to make your own!
Not worth the money though, not at all....

wowowow, excellent work!!! amazing stuff!
-
I'm also going, but on saturday which isn't the best day to go but due to work I have no choice. Hoping to make there early.
-
My faves are the bridesmais, the limo shot and the two last ones. Those are very you :)
-
My clients love those, although I use the "crappy" big folio show (which I don't recommend to anyone because of limited pictures I can put in it (only twenty) and resizing time to make the show. But I've only gotten excellent response to those as it enables couples to share with family. Also I use as a preview before they get their proofs.
I do those as a thank you token for the couple.

80% manual camera, ttl flash.
-
Oh, that's awesome! I would jump into photographing such wedding. I would even pay!! :)
-
I'm at work so can't put the music on, but the show seemed a bit fast. However, we're not here to critique the show but the photographer. I love your ability to depict emotions and I love your detail shots but there was too little variation of shots of the ceremony. Overall very nice job and very nice wedding!

Anybody planing to go and haven't yet paid for tuition?
I can't go due to personal circumstances and will be willing to give my tuition
away at a fair price (I paid $500) for the whole workshop (not including lodging
and air fare which unfortunately I can't transfer and need to loose).
If you haven't heard of it...here's more info: http://www.foundryphotoworkshop.org/
Let me know.
