I am sorry to say but the lighting really grates. The mixture of highlights and darkness looks all wrong to me. I immediately thought of the Walker Evans photo of the share-cropper family and how powerful that was. That image is evenly lit and astonishingly powerful. This just annoys. For me, the lighting takes away all possibility of message or question, and that is a shame.
Sorry Karl, I like an awful lot of your work, but not this one.

Hi Alan, Thanks for your kind words.
I did the conversion using Silverefex Pro 2 plugin for CS-5. It's an excellent tool. I also used a landscape preset that can be downloaded from the Niksoft website.
To get the very dark sky, when I did the RAW conversation in CS-5, I adjusted the blues and the aquamarines to make them darker. However, the sky was quite dark anyway. Annapurna Base Camp is up at 4135m, and at that altitude the contrast between sky and mountain is massive anyway. You almost can't help get a dark sky!
It's a great place to visit!
