Zealand's south island.

Overcast rainy day in Christchurch ... great flowers in the botanical

I'm not sure if this is best put in Nature or Macro for critique?
Regardless it's one of my favourites from an otherwise overcast and
wet day in Christchurch's lovely botanical gardens.

Does anybody have any ideas on how to prevent the dithering effect
that occurs when uploading B&W photos like this (background not a nice
graduated shade, but rather in different shade bands) ... my local
copy which is a jpg < 100Kb doesn't exhibit this prior to uploading to
photo.net
Other than that, I like the shot, especially in B&W.

Any thoughts on how this shot works? Seems kind of abstract to me, but
I like the vivid colours.

Shooting at a zoo is frustrating ... people's heads, bars, barriers
etc all get in the way of a decent shot. I'm pretty happy with this
photo, even though a few blades of grass still got between me and my
subject - does having this obstacle out of focus help or is it still a
distraction?

nice shot! 6/6

Not sure what works best, this B&W version or the

This is one of my favourite shots taken in Melbourne Botanical Gardens
the other day - I like the balance of colours and light in this shot -
wonder what other people think?

I'ld like to say the framing effect was on purpose, but to be honest it's just lucky. Now you point it out, I see how it improves the shot. Thanks!

Not sure what category this photo would fall into - just some
