Sam, the wedge of sunlight doesn't contain any detail. That's what I meant by blown hightlights. It's an old photographic term. Sorry for the confusion.
-
The element that caught my eye initially was the transparency of the water. That and the pleasing reflections serve to make a very nice photo. You've already pointed out the elements that could have improved the shot but sometimes we take what we get and I think you've done a credible job with this one. As far as the other issues are concerned it's probably in my interests to keep my mouth shut...:)

Technically, this shot is superb. Aesthetically, the subject matter is interesting and the overall design is good.
-
Give the exotic nature of the subject this is a good photo. The lighting is good but it seems to my eye that the left most clump of vegatation needs more saturation to balance the clump on the right.

This photo works for me Dale. The subject matter is undeniably photogenic, your design is pleasing and the technical aspects of your shot are handled well.

To my eye, this image is simply not that interesting. I see that you were trying to use the arch to frame the fountain but the other elements of the shot are just not captivating. The blown highlights don't help either.
-
I think you shot reflects your caption perfectly...a nice sunset.
-
Good photo. The dark elements provide a nice design component.

Mainly, my suggestions have to do with minor, subjective tweaks of this fine image. I would lower the highlights to bring out the clouds and slightly increase the sharpness to emphasize the texture of the foliage. Otherwise I think this rendition is fine.
-
A fine shot that could have benefitted from more depth of field but nonetheless overcomes this slight limitation thanks to the color and composition of the shot.
-
The composition, technical expertise and subject all combine to provide a very pleasing photo. I particularly like the framing to emphasize the scale of the scene. Well done.
-
Technically I think you've done a fine job in capturing this little scene. The acuity is superior. Unfortunately, the composition itself and the subject matter is not that interesting. I see potential here but not with this broad overall view. Focusing on specific details would have been more interesting.

IMO Colin, the human elements of this silhouette could be larger.
-
A fine image that amply demonstrates that less is more.
-
This photo doesn't work for me. The composition and subject matter are visually uninteresting. There is no "reason"; it appears simply as a random shapshot.
-
As a character study/street scene I think you've done a good job. I do believe there are some technical issues that could be improved. My main suggestion is to open the shadow under the hat. The shadow over his eyes tends to deaden them. I've uploaded an example.

Your image has a painterly feel to it that to me adds a nice glow to the shot.

A "reflection" shot that IMO is a notch above the usual.
