  4. Yeah, the 28-75 is typically a good lens - had a great one for years. I upgraded to the tamron 24-70 vc - mainly for the stabilization and wider angle- but had a hard time finding a copy as good as my 28-75, despite the 24-70 being several times more expensive.

Thank you Bela! Yes, the lens reflections are meant to be an integral part of the image.

    New Horizons

Love this. I'm not seeing any problems with the handrails or horizon tilt - maybe you updated the image? - and I like the horizon where it is. If the rocks on the lower right could have been eliminated, it may have been an improvement, but a tighter crop may have not have been feasible. This is beautiful.
  7. Actually, my response was misleading - the techart pro indeed works as described with the A7R mark II, but I believe the original A7R lacks the phase detect autofocus that the adapter needs. I thought you were talking about the newer model.
  8. You can easily zoom in with the evf, or use focus peaking, as an aid to focusing manually. Also, there is an adapter by Techart that actually allows autofocus with manual focus M-mount lenses; I believe you can use a Fd-M adapter on top of this and have autofocus on your FD lenses.
  9. You want the largest aperture - which equals the smallest f number - available. So, with your lens at 55mm, that would I believe be f/5.6. For out of focus backgrounds, this is actually a moderate f stop; you would have more success with a faster (larger aperture) lens that goes to f2.8, f/1.8, etc. F/2.8 zooms are available, but if you want even less depth of field, you pretty much have to go with a fixed focal length lens such as a 35mm or 50mm f/1.8. Before buying a new lens though, make sure you are shooting your current lens wide open - at its largest f stop. Go into aperture priority mode and use the smallest number available. See how that works and go from there. Subject distance, background distance, and focal length all play a role too.
  10. I have the FE 50 f/1.8 and it's excellent optically - by accounts I've read, almost as good as the much more expensive 55. The problem for me has been its terribly slow AF...though there was a firmware update issued to remedy this. I haven't had a chance to do that update yet, but supposedly it helps quite a bit.
