Thanks for the comments. Yeah, I think it's one of those cases where it's kind of ambiguous as to whether not it should be viewed in an abstract way. I.e., a little to real to be abstract and a little to abstract to be taken literally. I don't think I'd hang it on my wall either, but it was a fun exercise :-) Thanks again for the comments!

  1. Very, very nice. The compositional elements bring a very nice movement to this photo. Attached FYI is a photo I recently took that is a different take on a similar idea, but not nearly as successful :-)

Really like the stark simplicity. I'd burn in the lower part of the arm a little, though. Nice shadows on the hands, and I like how the needles jump out. I might have left a smidge more space with the cropping. I'm not sure if I understand the technique you reference... is this a contact print of a transparency?

Mostly an exercise in playing with curves. I was going after

that "pasted on" look of the trees... not sure to what extent it

results in a pleasing image, but I had fun.

Jean, evidently from much of the feedback you'll have to take the photo in a less optimal light next time so the green isn't "oversaturated." :-) The oversaturation thing is an easy assumption to make, I suppose, for those never having been blessed with seeing something this vivid in real life... especially if they didn't browse your previous comments. Great shot.

  2. IMHO this photo is *all* about the light, which I think is absolutely wonderful. The subject matter for me is a distant, vaguely comical afterthought. Sadly, my toilet photo missed out on the adulation (snif,) but maybe in the wake of Johannes and Duchamp it might mean I'm destined for greatness :-). Very nice work, Johannes!
