  1. I like the use of b&w here but if you don't mind my saying, it seems a little contrasty and too centered. I think it might have more impact if the boat were cropped more to the right side of the picture. Sort of leave the viewer wondering where that rope leads to. JMHO. :)Your angle of view is excellent. Aesthetically those are my only quibbles. Originality is such a subjective thing, and I really don't think that should enter into the equation. Again--JMHO.

Now this is much better than the one I just commented on. I like the DOF here, and I like these kinds of shots. Although this could have been topped off by having the ball in good focus, this is a great attempt. Bravo. The aesthetics are much better than in THE PITCH.

Love the firey reds and oranges here. This shot seems well composed and the sun stands out well without being blown out. While taking a sunset picture is very hard to accomplish well, you've achieved success here. As far as aesthetics, everything is visually appealing. As far as originality goes, that's hard to judge because so many are taken. I like this picture though.

Your portfolio as a whole is excellent. I am choosing this photo in particular, as the colors are exceptional. Aesthetically, the path does a great job of leading the viewer into the horizon. The clouds add a sense of an impending storm, and I get the feeling that it's going to be a big one. Your post processing adds that 'painted' touch. Nicely done.

Always love to see the warbirds. About the only thing I would consider being worth any 'negative' comment is I wonder if you could've used a lower shutter speed to show the prop revolving. Of course, I wasn't there, so I don't know under what conditions you were shooting. Good capture nonetheless. I hope you'll check out some of the warbirds on my portfolio.

I like your concept here. I was going to tell you that I thought it was a little dark, but I see you addressed that in a response to another viewer. Well done. Hope you get the chance to view my portfolio.

  3. Stunning! You have a marvelous portfolio Guy, but I'm attracted to this one in particular. Great composition. The shaft of light leads me from the bottom of the frame right up to the clouds. An excellent visual experience.

  4. To tell you the truth, and this is my own personal pov, I'm not crazy about this one. It seems awfully busy, and a little disjointed. To each his own, though. I like the rest of your portfolio though. I thought I'd explain why I didn't rate it high. John

On the whole, your portfolio is wonderful. I selected this picture to critique because it has excellent composition. The colors are vibrant without being excessive. The reflection matches the title. Great shot.

p.s. Your bio pic is a hoot.

  5. Just looking at this picture, and not having seen your gallery yet, I will try to convey how I feel about it.

Positives--vivid colors. Good exposure and composition.

Negatives--maybe the colors are TOO vivid, but not being a citizen of Oia, I have no frame of reference. It also may be the way the light strikes the buildings at that time of day.I also agree about the shadow cutting across the bottom of the picture. Hope this helps.

About the only thing missing is a blue sky. Old Glory looks so much better against a blue sky. Great capture nonetheless. I like it.
