Well, Hal has spent the last couple of weeks with me here in Toronto,
and it's time for him to move on to Calgary. Before he goes, I'd like
to share with all of you highlights of his visit. We spent some time
in my neighbourhood of Swansea; downtown Toronto, then ended our
visit at the Canadian National Exhibition.
There's going to be quite a few pictures ahead, so if you're reading
this, please wait until I'm done before you comment, just so the
posting is not interrupted.

Olivier, I can't even begin to understand what you're going through, but we've been watching coverage of the hurricane on CNN, and it looks horrific. My thoughts are with you, and I hope everyone there can return to their normal lives soon.

You are all so nice; thank you so much for all your compliments! I think I may be blushing ;-)

Yes, thank you so much, that is my photo! I was visiting a friend in Winnipeg in 2001, and as we were touring downtown Winnipeg, the Exchange District, we stopped inside an old bank building, where that shot was taken. The shot was taken with an near-classic, either my Nikon FM2 or EM. I sent the photo at the last minute to Photo Life in April, but really didn't expect it to make it into the magazine. I had almost forgotten that I sent it, until I received a large envelope from Photo Life in July, with a copy of the magazine, a tear sheet and a very nice letter saying they had chosen my photo. I was very excited and was jumping around my living room like an idiot! All I could think was "gonna buy five copies for my mother"!!

Daniel, these photos are great. If I didn't look too closely at the one of the people outside of Balzacs, I'd swear the photo was taken in the 1930s! I've been to the Distillery a million times, and those trucks are never parked so conveniently nice for me; how did you manage that?

Ron, the pictures should be less than 511 pixels wide to show up on screen and you need a caption. Try again!

OK Andrea, I'll just post what I get.
Thanks Andre, I'll email you right now.

A couple of things: Andrea, what do I do with the pics and/or scans
I get from Hal? Do you want the scanned pics on a CD? What will you
do with all the pics taken with Hal? Are you going to be making a
book or a web site, so we can see all the photos from around the
world?
Andre, I tried emailing you to ask for your address, but I got a
Delivery Failure Notification. Can I have your correct email
address, please?
Thanks!

I like the composition as well, but I do find the blurry stuff in the background a little distracting. I've also taken photos with the subject off-centre, and they are almost always more interesting than a perfectly centred subject, don't you think?

Graham, those are some of the prettiest photos I've seen on the forum for a long time. Such charming scenes. I especially like the one with the black cat, but I wonder what it is that he does know? I also love the Limestone Cottages, makes me wonder who lives in those homes! It's amazing how well the sunny 16 rule actually works, once you're used to it. I spent a week in Spain using sunny 16, and of 16 rolls of film, I think only a few shots were underexposed. You obviously have a firm grasp of sunny 16, as evidenced by these wonderful photos.
