  1. I am developing a business plan for a photography business that I want

to start. I would like to open a portrait studio and shoot medium

format film. Is there still a market for high quality film portraits

    B&W and color?

    Thanks for your responses.

  2. Thanks for all your help. about the remark about swimming in Alabama, I have been skinny dippying all my life, nudity is not the issue, It is breaking the law and ending up in legal trouble that is. The 15 year old who wants me to shoot her wants to be a burlesque dancer the moment she turns 18 (I don't really have a problem with that either) at this time she is only 15 and I would like to take age approriate photos that will help her get work now, not in three years when she turns 18.
  3. I know in New Jersey The State specificly made breast feeding in public an exception to the laws against public nudity. As far as the photo goes it pays to deveop a relationship with the store that processes your film

I saw a simalar article about a man who photographed his young daughters bouncing on their beds in tee shirts and the tee shirts rode up exposing them, he too was met by the police at the store.

  4. Hello,

A fifteen year old girl wants me to take some portfolio pictures for

her. Her parents are consenting and one will attend the shoot. She

wants advice on what to wear. I went to OMP and looked for

professional models her age and found this model

    http://member.onemodelplace.com/member.cfm?ID=94537

This girl is practicly nude. Can anyone direct me to what are the

limets for shooting a minor in the US. For my shoot I was thinking of

a formal (prom) dress, nice jeans and tee top, sport, and headshots.

any other ideas? I have shot models before by they were in their 20s.

    Thanks,

    Matthew

  5. I will have a look at the Rolis. I really like medium format. As I said before a friend lent me a mamiya 330 and I love the pictures it takes. It is heavy to hand hold though, but on I tripod its great. I shoot digital for convenice and cost, but when I want quaulity I use the

    mamiya.

  6. Edward,

Thanks for your response. A photographer I like uses a 200 series

(www.tonyflorez.com) It likes because when he shoot weddings he can set the arpeture and concentrate on composition. One day when I'm making money I will consider a Hasselblad, for now its just a fantasy.

  7. Hi

1 am new to medium format so plase help me out. my understanding is that the 20o bodies are for location photography and have build in light meters and the 500 body is for studio work where one is taking readings off of studio lights. If I'm correct then what replaces the 200 body for location work?

    Thanks for your responses,

    Matthew

  8. There is a "C" on the plate that attaches the lens to the camera.

The camera looks like the 5x7 view camera above (it has all the knobs etc), however the rail that the bellows travels on is 15 inches, not 21 (24?) inches as advertised. The body is painted green and the bellows is bright red.

The lens speed starts at 1 sec and goes to 1/200th with a "B" and a "T" setting. The arpeture is hard to read but it looks like f/32 to f/1. The name plates also says "patent pending" which indicates to me it is an early model.

    Hope this helps

  9. A friend of mine has a Burke & James Camera. I could not find a model

number. It is 5x7 and the lens board says "No 3 Acme". The name plate

on the camera says "patent pending". Can anyone tell me where to find

a model number or help me identify this camera. Its in good shape and

I am dying to give it a go.

  10. I maybe taking pictures of Doberman and Routwiler puppies at a kennel.

The pictures are going on the Web to advetise the puppies for sale.

I tried using my digital with flash and the shutter delay is too

long. I am thinking of putting two 240 house lights with a reflector

at a 45 degree angle and a little higher than the puppies head. I

would then shoot the picture with my digital without a flash.

    Anyone have a better idea?

I also am deciding on a background color for a brown/black dog. The

kennel has glossy mohogany paneling which looks alful because of the

shine and the color is too close to the color of the dogs. Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Matthew

  11. I have heard that if one moves a flash along a straight line using

standard f-stop distances the lights intensity will change by the

number of stops. ie if a flash is eight feet from the subject and

one moves it to eleven feet from the subject the light will decrease

by one stop. I don't get it. First, Using the inverse square law

moving the flash three feet from eight to eleven feet will decrease

the flash by one-ninth (3 sqaured), not one half (one stop). Second,

f-stops are baased on a cirular lenses opening not a straight line.

So I am confused. Can anyone explain how the inverse square law

relates to moving a flash f-stop distances along a straight line and

why a staight line would work since f-stops are based on a cirular

    lenses?

    Thanks,

    dazed and confused
