<p>Thanks for your help. I have spent a day in Ashville, which makes it hard to judge. seems more liberal there than most of the South. I will try the universities. I have looked at the modeling sites there are a few portential models. I will aslo try approching dance companies etc. I may be able to find someone who does not "model" but would be interested.<br>
Ashville seems like a nice town for the arts, lots of theather etc.</p>

<p>Hello<br>
I May have to move to Ashville, NC from London,England. while I have been here I have enjoyed taking figure lighting workshops and would not like to give up figure work if I move to Ashville. I am concerned that it will be hard to find people to model for me there. Does anyone who lives in the area know of a good source of models in Ashville? I like to use women who are involved in the arts in one way or another, ballet dancers, actors etc.<br>
Many Thanks</p>

Hello,
I am writing a business plan and was looking at a hasselblad 503CW for photographing events. I am new to Medium
format so please bear with me.
It seemed to me that because the the 503CW does not have a light meter or auto focus it would be too slow for
events.
I know that hasselblad sells its camera's al-carte. are the options I can add that would make it quicker for use
as an event camera? can one add an option to make it TTL for a flash?
Many Thanks

I Love Maine too would be cool to fome up with a way to live there. Running a portraitbusiness would be fun. would have to convience people to spend there money and that my portraits would look a lot better than holiday snaps. I was thinking people are more relaxed and have more time on holiday. I would target the high end market because as it was rightly said : people have digal cameras and can take a decent photo.

HI,
I have been thinking of where to start a photography business. I am thinking about in a tourist town in maine. It
is busy from about May 1 to Sept 30th. Has anyone had any experience marketing portraits to vacationers? care to
share your thoughts?
Thanks

One thing you could do in the long run is use a large format camera. The film plane and the lens plane are independent which allows one to increase the depth of field. I personally do not own one, but I know it is possible and a advantage of that style camera

No the photos are not for sale. Just put them up for people to view. They are not the best of the lot either. The photo show was put together to show friends not to sell.

I have recently moved to London and would like to obtain some work shooting portraits and events. Can anyone
recomend a book that deals with marketing a business in the UK?
Thanks,
Matthew

Thanks for your responses. here is a link to some of the images. I enjoyed taking the photos of the players. It was a lot of fun trying to capture the "moment".

I saw Sam Abell speak at a University a couple years ago. He is a very interesting person and I would recomend going to a lecture of his if the opportunity arises. He photographed for National Geographic.

Hello,
I was at the Wimbledon Tennis matches recently and photographed the 17 and under kids playing their matches
because that was what was on the outter courts that day. I friend who does websites for photographers says I need
to be careful about photographing minors. The photos I took were at an international public sporting competetion of
people playing tennis. Do I really need to be concerned about the competors ages? Does anyone know what laws
governs this situtation? I know I can not publish the images because the venue will not give you permission without a
press pass.
Thanks,
Matthew

Thanks, I had a look at camera club, they seem to have a lot to offer.

Paul,
I don't what kind of photographs you are looking for. I think you will have too much too see as opposed to be trying to find something to see.
First there is http://www.timeout.com/london/ search on arts and then category of photographs.
http://www.the-aop.org/ has a gallery ( association of photographers) they may also be able to give you guidance as to other galleries.
The national portrait gallery may have photographs in the modern section.
Christies and Sutherbys auction houses sometimes are auctioning off images. They have a public day for reviewing before the auction so one can go and see without feeling like one has to be a bidder. (Christies just auctioned off a Kate moss image for instance)
Harrods has an art gallery. Last time I was there they had some B&Ws of Marilyn Monroe.
www.artnet.com will a little advance searching will give you a list of galleries who have photographs. A good site if you are looking for a particular artist.
Hope this helps. As I said you maybe overwhelmed.

Hello,
I recently moved to London and am looking for a location to scan some slides
(35mm) In the states a university had a room with Macs that one could do that
in. Does anyone know of a simalar location in London where I could do that?
Thank you.
-
I will have a look and get back to you. lots of art in this city. If you were here before the 28th of may, there is the face of fasion at the national portrait gallery
-
Thanks Jay. I will scan a photo and post it this week
-
Jay I was exposing the entire image with both filters. Do you mean if I use a 3 filter instead of a 2 and a 4 to make a double exposure it would be the same
-
Thanks for all you responces. I did meter off the sunny side and opened up a stop. I also underdeveloped the negitives by a minute. seems to be alright. when I scan the print, I will post it.
The other printing trick I have been shown and tried using VC paper is:
use a low contrast filter to determine the exposure for the highlights.
then use a high contrast filter and determine the exposure for the shaddows. Then make a double exposure, one with the low contrast filter and one with the high contrast filter. The print will come out correctly. has anyone tried this?
-
Hello
I have photographed nudes in the sun a couple times. I seem to overexpose the
negitive by a stop or so. The highlights seem to burn out Does anyone have any
suggestions on how to meter a body correctly so one gets detail in the
highlights and shadows? thanx

Mike Thanks for your response. I am going to talk to people about the market in the area I want to put in a studio and look at the other photographers in the area to see what market they are serving. I talked to a business owner I Know and he says that if one developes a business plan a local bank will help you with the demographics and market analysis.

by ghost I mean a double exposure. one from the flash and the second from the ambient light. with a flash sync of 1/60 I would think that the camera is suceptable to this. but I could be wrong

<p>Hi am also interested in the legal aspects of photographing minors. For instance I saw in the news that a yearbook having a photograph of Madonna (the singer) at the age of 14 is being auctioned. It also contains photos of lots of other 14 year old classmates. Just wondering what the legalities are.</p>
<p>cheers,<br>
