1.
I sold my 20D and bought the 7D for only one reason: The 20D has a tiny LCD that is almost useless in checking the pictures. (I'm wearing bi-focal glasses.) My simple rule for DSLR camera is to buy the newest model and use it until it breaks down or in the 20D's LCD case. For example, I'll keep my 5D mk2 and skip the mk3, mk4, mk5... until Canon introduces a new one that really makes sense to replace the 5D mk2. In your case, the 40D is good enough to make quality pictures.

 2.
When I bought a Canon L lens, I would let Canon to optimize the lens whenever I had a chance to go to the Canon Factory Service Center in Jamesburg, New Jersey. The service is free for L lenses. (I don't know if they charge for other lenses.) In your case, send your lens to Tamron to have it adjusted because even you try a couple of more lenses, you may not be able to find a perfect copy that makes you happy.

 3.
This isn't a good time to buy cameras and lenses because the prices are going up daily. In addition, unless you need a camera but don't have one, the general rule is to buy the newest model and keep using it as long as possible, may be until it breaks down. Should you wait for the new 5D mk3? The answer is yes, and again, if you have a camera to use now. Recently, Canon offered great rebates to those who bought camera and lens at the same time, so think right now the lens you plan to buy with the 5D mk3 and wait patiently.

 4.
You have three options: 1) Send it to Canon and pay about $250 for part, service, tax, and shipping. 2) Buy from ebay for $24.95 + $3.49 S/H and install it yourself. 3) Email this LCD company at hu221221@gmail.com for about $50 - $75 if they carry the 580EX LCD. My kid dropped the Canon Xsi and cracked th LCD, and they fixed it for $75 including cleaning and S/H. Many Canon users know this company. RongStar Digital Inc, 3075 S Bonfield St, Chicago, IL 60608.

 5.
I think you should wait. The 70-200 2.8 II came out at $2499, dropped to $2069 with $200 rebate when I bought it in last October, was $2269 last month, and now is back to retail price of $2499. However, the lens is perfect in all aspects.

 6.
This is the best time to buy the Canon 70-200 f/2.8L IS II because the price has dropped from $2499 to $2069. If you're planning to upgrade your 70-200 f/4L, do it now. You won't be disappointed. This lens is the one I know for sure that I'll keep it for a long time.

 7.
John,
I think you don't have up-to-date pricing. The 70-200 2.8 IS II is $2069. The version I is $1899, only $170 less than version II. You shouldn't compare a new version II to a used version I, don't you agree? Tell me a new Canon lens for indoor sport that is superior to the verison II and is 1/2 or 1/3 of the price?, ie, $1034.50 or $689.67.
I sold two prime lens 300 f/4 IS and 35 f/1.4 to buy this lens, and I'm happy about its quality especially its bokeh that I can't have using my 70-200 f/4 IS. The quality of the new verison II is excellent even with the 1.4x II.

 8.
I have just received the new Canon S95. Upon initial inspection, I have two questions.
1. The camera is warm around the battery area. Is this normal?
2. The DISP. and MENU buttons are tilted toward each other instead of in perfect alignment. The "S" button next to the "PLAY" button is also tiled to the right. Is this the way Canon design?
Thank you for your help.

 9.
I have both 17-40 and 16-35. One stop of the 16-35 makes a big difference on the 5D mk2. As John said, if you have the 16-35, 50 f1.4, and 70-200 f4 IS, then you don't need either the 24-70 or 24-105. I also have the 24-105 and use it when I go out with only one lens. If the price isn't your concern, then simply buy the 16-35. You won't regret.
