I think the M8 will enjoy price support levels on the way down as there are more users willing
to pay $2,5000 / $2,000 / $1,500 as there is no competition compared to Pro Nikon owners
willing to support older Pro cameras on the way down. Case in point I bought a new D1H for
$400 in the box as all classes of buyers had more new models for less $$ i.e. D40/D50/D80.
I will buy the first $2,500 M8 I come across be it in 1 / 3/ 5 years.

Zeiss 38mm Biogon. So good they built a camera around it. Hasselblad SWC - 903, etc. The
best P&S ever.

I used a geared tele lens on a Nikon F body. It had a stick shift similar to a car transmission.
You focused on each base of the baseball diamond. By racking the gear shift we were able to
cover double plays, etc way before any autofocus. Actually my failing memory seems to recall
it faster than AF. In any event that was the first lens that let me shoot sports faster than a
Nikon RF I used. The SLR was great for preplanned action but fell short for random moving
action.
I think Marty Forscher adapted the lens. It was owned by Time Life.

My favorite is my P&S the Hasselblad SWC - one lens - one finder - one format
-
The Canon lenses are the fastest. The 0.95 is faster than the Nocts and the 1.2 is faster than
the lux's. True not native M mounts but adaptable.
-
Open. In a hurry changing lenses you will get the shot - overexposed at worse. I leave the
1.2 and other fast lenses open. My more utilized lenses at 5.6 or 8. I rarely have to fiddle
after changing.

Mine is esay to operate with the case. You need to remove it to access the card and battery.

The G7 interested me until I evaluated the Ricoh GRD. The GRD with an external VC finder
is an intuitive camera very linear to the original barnack in design-similar to me to a
Minilux with more manual control. Remove the VF and it is a small pocket Digi with great
amount of control. The G7 without raw is a failure in design IMO. I have the Dlux 2 as well
and the GRD is more Leica-like. I would welcome Leica to build a similar camera to the
GRD it would a DigiMinilux.
The G7 just seems similar to Leica in that both have a lens and a separate thing to look
through. To paraphrase Sen. Bentson "I know Leicas, Leicas are a friend of mine and
Senator you are not a Leica"

The problem was probably the lack of a proper steam cabinet. I have been a vegetarian for 27
years. The one thing I miss is a combo pastrami and corned beef on rye with 1000 island and
cole slaw on the sandwich. PLEASE have one for me.

Ian,
Very nice set of photos. Just what I need - another camera. Thanks a lot!
Seriously, where were the photos shot? The locale intrigues me. Thanks and please keep me
posted on your further impressions.

I think I am more concerned with the IR issues and the need to put a filter on the lens to balance a faulty design. It raises concerns as to what other band-aids and compromises will be required. Why rush?

For exclusive portrait shooting I would rank the SLR / TLR / RF in order. A venerable 500cm
with 150mm (as stated above) is ideal. A second choice is a Rolleiflex TLR as proven by
Avedon and others. The RF is simple but an disaadvantage for portraits inherent in its design.

I have recently shopped for new lenses for my Leicas, Hasselblad, and Nikon D200. The Leica and
Hasselblad glass are similar in the relative simplicity of their design and selection. Old, vintage, new
generation but linear in choice and design. And costly.
The Nikon lens search becomes one of electronic complexity. AFS / VR/ Variable max aperature / Fixed
aperature / primes / macros / etc. And relatively inexpensive.
Living with multiple systems feels like I am living in two worlds simultaneously. The more I remunerate I
can't decide if I am in a photographic parrallel universe or a time warp. Its weird.

D Devito played a Weegee like character in I think L A Confidential around 1997.

Easy one: Its not OCD if you call it hobby.

I wonder what the original Elmar 3.5cm rim set measure. They were F L A T
-
Are you sure its not a 50? The lenshood looks more like a WA than the 150mm. What do you think?
-
Thanks everyone. Upon further review I conclude I have a mirror / VF problem. The groundglass proved I have similar focus error with a 50 / 150/ 250 mm lens.
The camera is off for adjustment this afternoon.

Not many of us get 36 exp on 120 film. The usual number is between 8 and 16 depending on the format. 36 exposure is what one gets from long roll 35mm.
-
That was with a brightscreen glass with the WL. I will try another glass as well. Thanks
-
It looks like the samething with my 250mm. I will check it tomorrow with a groundglass back.
It a fraction of a turn of the focus ring but still weird. Thanks
-
I just acquired a very clean 150mm Sonnar T*. I was out shooting the first roll today. The lens is in my
500cm,
It seems the lens focuses short of infinity fot yhe most distant subjects. Is there any reason the lens
focuses short? Is this normal for the 150?
Thanks

Hasselblads are so fragile and error prone that they were selected by NASA to be used during the Apollo moon landings as well as many other space flights before and after.
An abused camera will never be as dependable as one taken relatively good care of so buy from a reputble user. Many were used extensively in studios on tripods so look pristine. Always look at the back of the camera for wear from removing backs and the bottoms for extensive wear to the tripod mounting plate. THe bodies themselves have few moving parts and they are all replaceable as well.
Good luck.
How much is it worth to have a Digital Camera?
