brian - it's like going to a flea market or window shopping. lot of times you don't know what you want, but you stroll around and voila, something floats your fancy that otherwise might not have and you go for it.

i bought an old flash and a book for sale which i would not have noticed otherwise.

"Why would a human want to look at all 1000+ ads"
A human named Brian M. might not, but other humans might ;)

i agree with leslie. there are often times when i had no idea i wanted to buy something in a particular category until i was perusing through the whole list and happened to see something that caught my eye. this view all feature was the best thing about the buy/sell board here as compared to other sites, such as fred miranda, etc. too bad it's gone :(

well, turns out Nikon was quite fast in giving me a response.
Turns out just deleting the files in OSX (which is new to me) was not enough. I had to clear out the /Library/Application support and Preferences directory entries for nikon as well. in addition, they suggested i install of CD instead of the online version. I put in the CD and first did an uninstall and then another clean install. It choked for a minute or 2, but then powered through.
Everything seems to be working ok, at least for now. Crisis averted.

NS4 worked fine on the original release of Tiger, but now that i am on
10.4.1, it crashes upon startup with my CoolScan V. I have tried
reinstalling it, but to no avail. I also updated it to 4.0.2 but same
problem. Here is the top snippet of what the Problem Report is. Any
help is MUCH appreciated!

i was going to say that puppy face will probably disagree with what i stated, but then i realized, he was the one posting right above me! :D

not to start a nikon vs canon war here, but i've seen some excellent results from the SB800+nikon d70. From the numerous postings here and on fredmiranda which i've read and seen examples of their usage, I think based on just flash units, nikon is hard to beat. And, I'm a canon user. so, if you are just getting into the DSLR game and are using flash as a big point to woo you one way over the other...

Ok, so i stopped reading at about Peter's "Lieca Photography Forum" post b/c i was laughing too hard. Two questions:
1) where officially are people who shoot/want to shoot and are gaining more info about Bessa rangefinders/39mm screwmount stuff supposed to post?
2) perhaps more importantly, (and maybe someone said it and i missed it), will this thread get archived???
-
hmm, that was one of the first lab safety points we were always taught - do NOT put your hands into your mouth until AFTER washing them of chemicals.

thanks everyone for their help!

carlin - just sent you an email. thanks.

excellent. now i just have to track one down. thanks.

Is there such an animal, and if so, anywhere cheap where i can find or
buy one? I have looked on fleebay, but no luck. I see 2 posts
previously referring to the auction site regarding this.
Is there anything special to know going this route other than the lack
of rangefinder coupling and the need to zone focus? I was wanting to
buy a canon wide angle.
If anyone has one they would like to sell, i'd be most appreciative.
thanks.

i am confused about the cost to join as a photog. the $10 cost is for models/actors, right? i can't find anywhere on there FAQ where they tell you the pricing structure. i don't want to enter all my info in to find out it costs like beacoup de bucks per month, etc.
so, would someone share the cost info, please?
thanks.

here are couple of threads regarding this if you want yet more info.

thanks for your response, Joe. I was afraid of that. Can you explain to me how i would use the 285HV off-camera? it does not have a input sensor to enable it to flash when it sees another flash. would i have to attach the SC-3 cord from it to my hotshoe, and then use the ABs as an "optical slave" to go off when the 285 goes off? Thanks again for your help!

Ok, so i am thinking of buying an AB800 and just use one light to get
accustomed to lighting etc without getting too complicated. since i
already own a 420EX, what are the a) cheapest, b) easiest, c) best
ways (hopefully they are one in the same! :) ) to get them to work
together when i am ready to add lights, yet can't afford a second AB?
my searching didn't really come up with anything - more with 550EX and
external lights. thanks for your help!

i've personally found its best to avoid the "gear" forums and live primarily in the pictures fora, well at least as much as possible, whether here or on another board, and see not only what others use to create in terms of physical equpiment, but also thought process/creativity, etc. the more i tend to hear about gear, the more my mind seems to gravitate to the (somewhat flawed) thinking that buying more gear will make me better. sure, i want to go to into studio stuff so i will need a few things to go that route. however, i plan on the KISS technique - keeping it simple stupid - so i don't burn a huge hole in my tiny wallet. plus, if you get too much, you get overwhelmed and then don't know where to start. when i was starting out a year and half ago, i did what many people recommended and used only a 50mm lens for 6 months or so (occasionally rented/borrowed another lens) until i got the feel for what i really wanted/needed.
and, you don't necessarily need PS CS - you could get Elements which is a fraction of the cost. either way, if you want to share your pictures in the digital domain, you will need to use some sort of image manipulation software unless you stick only with slides or prints from your lab/the lab.

Idk if someone has posted this or not (i didn't see it in a quick
search of titles) so please excuse if this is a repost.
Canon has written a little writeup for 1 Series users which is
interesting reading even if you are a "lower life" person ;) I just
saw the link for this on another forum and thought that I would pass
it along.
